I have the Speedways and they are fine. The material is a little softer than Firestone or STA but you won't find a better bang for the buck!

Any chance the Speedway had a DOT plant code on the sidewall anywhere? I don't see tread depth indicators so thats why I'm wondering...

The STA, Firestone, and Goodyear are USA made.

If you shop around among the commercial tire suppliers in your area, not the discount houses, you may find some that have a source for made in USA inner tubes.
I like STA as they use original molds from former manufacturers of actual GI issue tires for some of their NDT and NDCC tires, just the names have been changed.

OK whatever, I thought we were talking about tires?

Here is a picture of my speedways I just removed from my brothers CJ2A and placed on my MB build. The tires have approximately 500 miles and were purchased during 12/2013.

Ben told you about the tubes, because it is good practice to use new tubes with new tires.
Also, the quality of manufacture of the tire also is important, as to weather you can get it to balance right.

Hi,

FWIW looking at the pictures the STA look like worn out tyres even though they are new. They are smaller and the tread depth appears to be shallower. May be OK for highway but no good for 4wding. :|

I suspect Ben's note about the STA being a leftover WWII vintage mold may have been directed at me. I have been to the plant several times, and I have not been able to verify the statement, and the pitch count is wrong.

Thank You, I now see the treadwear indicator in the Speedways. I'd still be interested in a plant code though.
I'd like to try to determine the Denier of the nylon ply and possibly the source of the rubber.

Farrell, two thumbs up to you for taking the time to post this information. I'm getting ready to order some tires and the review you posted is much appreciated.

Now I'm confused (doesnt take much) I thought the sharp pencil like tip was what authentic original WWII tires had,,,why do these Firestones not have that? in this case the speedways look more authentic???
I thought the Firestones were made from the same molds etc,,,?
