Joe Friday wrote:I suspect Ben's note about the STA being a leftover WWII vintage mold may have been directed at me. I have been to the plant several times, and I have not been able to verify the statement, and the pitch count is wrong.

Thank You, I now see the treadwear indicator in the Speedways. I'd still be interested in a plant code though.
I'd like to try to determine the Denier of the nylon ply and possibly the source of the rubber.

I agree with Ben's comment. The mold he is speaking of is of the correct vintage to have been used for motorpool replacements possibly during and after WWII. The sidewalls of the mold have been reworked or replaced.

Yes, all the Goodyear Tires are provided by Kelsey. All the Firestone tires are provided by Coker.
Lucas and the others are distributors.

I have STA Military Tires made on molds originally used for Gov't contract tires. And have GI Issue Tires made on those same molds.

I'm not sure I fully understand GI issue vs Government contract. You mean supplied by the motorpool? Or local procurement. Either way we seem to be straying here.

The STA has completely wrong sidewall marking for the period. Period.

I mean GI Issue,(NDCC/NDT) and it should be understood that the current STA version will not have the GI Issue markings.

I purchased my Goodyears from Universal Tire. Even though they were on the other side of the country. I took advantage of their free shipping during the holidays in December:
