Wanted to paint instead of weld yesterday. Finished the seats and painted them along with the fuel tank.

I always wondered about welding pictures I saw in Hot Rod as a kid. To explain, someone would weld up a custom dash and it would look perfect. Then one day I saw an article showing each step. the weld looked really rough and then they would grind and use sanding discs. It would then look just like the perfect pictures that are usually in the articles. My point is this, with sheet metal you have to do several spot welds skipping from place to place on the seam to keep warping to a minimum. With that in mind, those of you that always see the finished product should not feel as if your welds are terrible. Clean them up and see if it looks more like the pictures that are posted. Here is a progress picture all the hat channel is in. Time to clean up the welds and sand blast the remaining spots.

It has been a minute (expression) since I have worked on this. The mig bit the dust. I now have a new one. Time to get back to it. Keep you posted.

Steering gear box is now built. Those ball bearings are a ball buster. you can only seem to place the bottom set into the grove when the worm gear is almost seated. What a pain in the arse. I built this just after I built the GTB gear box. So as you may imagine, it was like working on a miniature model. Seemed so small.

So, If I would just pay a little more attention, I would have noticed that I was suppose to put the ball bearings in with the race and put a retaining ring below the race. Then the assembly slides in. Had to go redo it even though it would have been fine. No wonder it was such a PITA. Too many things going on. I just wanted to make sure to mention this so no one else would try to put the bearings together inside the case. UGH. :?

Sandblasted the body after finishing the tin work. I will post a picture when I get one. Also installed the horn contact ring on the steering shaft. The old one looked intact and had the wire soldered to it. Just my luck it showed continuity to ground on my ohm meter. The insulator must have broken down some how. When I detached the wire it still showed connection to ground.
