Christophe,
Exellent work! Drawings look great! With these making the clamp yourself will be a lot easier for the rest of the guys wanting
to properly repair their GPW frames.
Thank you for adding this to my thread
Regards
Hinrik

Re: Ford GPW frame riveting instructions
Thanks you for this great information!
Question about the frame horns. On my frame (MB), the frame horns both front and rear, there is a short piece of channel to box the ends in:
These boxing plates are channel shaped and riveted in with the rest
I thought the GPWs were boxed in as well. I noticed in the video these are missing:
What did you do for this?
Thanks!

Re: Ford GPW frame riveting instructions
Jpet,
The GPW frame does not have the boxed in or closed partition at the front as the MB frame does. You might have to
cut out this part to get access to the riveting, or use the imitation rivets. Cut out part can always be welded back in.

Jon.
The front gussets are riveted and welded for added strenght. We had an unmolested frame to compare with and
made the welds in the exact same spots and length as original. Here is a photo of the complete frame with the
welds shown to help you:

Re: Ford GPW frame riveting instructions
Hello Guys;
I am the owner of a dodge WC 51 with a bad crossmember;and on my search for riveting info... i stumbled across this topic. And boys you have made my day .
Since everyone tells me to use bolts...stuborn as i am i want go the original rivet way...and make my own rivet tool after seeing this
here is a pic off the bad crossmember :
so now the questions
1. do the GPW etc... use the same rivets as the dodge ?
2.did you guys use these (sorry don't know the english name) from the original uesd 10T jack ?
3.is it ok if i post this topic link into 2 other forums, because i know some people in there are looking also for a DIY rivettool (last thing i wanne do is steal your idea )
greetz,
Davy

Re: Ford GPW frame riveting instructions
Davy,
I also have a WC-51 which I need to repair. I am not sure what size rivets are in the Dodge, but suspect
these are 3/8. Our tool has changable ends, so no problem making up new ends to gear up for a WC-51
riveting job. The 2 nuts in the photo are: Left original one, then on the right a replaement one we used
with the smaller dia. shaft. Sure, you can post my info on other sites, please just quote my name and link.
I posted this to help people with this.
I will also make aditional adapters for our riveting tool to rivet on the gussets on the M2A1 Halftrack. The
tool itself is very universal since it has changable ends. Maybe you can get some guys in your country / city
to share the cost of making a tool set for your riveting work.

Re: Ford GPW frame riveting instructions
Hi all,
Yes, it's me. I'm back!!!
I have started a new job and have just completed my 6 month probation period. I'm now busy engineering all those lovely Dental Burs your dentist loves to use on you!!
Anyway, the next job to do on my restoration is rivet the frame, but first I need to build the tool...
I have had the four off 10mm plates cut and have had them sat on my bench for a very long time!! Unbelievably, they pretty much match the drawings put up by Christophe, except for the top, where Christophe has the parts angled off to 70°, mine is more like 45°.
Has anyone actually made the tool to Christophe's drawing? Does it actually work? Will I get away with my 45° top?
I am worried about creating a weak spot near the head of the tool?
All advice will be gratefully received.
Regards
Nige

Re: Ford GPW frame riveting instructions
Nigel,
Looks like you are treking along. But I am a bit worried about clearance issues you might have. Look at the photo on
this page where Johann is doing the rivets on front frame spring mounts. You need to have a bit of longer reach in
some places like there. And also note that we had to remove the threaded tubes that weld to that mount in order
to get to the rivet. New threaded tubes are avilable from Wilderberg in Holland, ca. 6 euros each.
You might want to do a little clearance test with one of the plates, and possible laser cut them a little for better fit.
Let us know how you progress
Hinrik

Re: Ford GPW frame riveting instructions
I saw that we would have liked to induce plenty of information and purchase or
make some special tools for this job. i need to indicate you the way we have a tendency to did this, so perhaps additional guys can consider saving their
frames (Jeeps) insted of scrapping them.
There were bits of information here and there to be found on cyberspace. erectile dysfunction Champions and Paul´s (pj-tigger) threads here on the Gee
where useful. It took American state over a year to seek out the correct toweling gripping puller to try and do the blind rivets within the frame and to seek out a
reliable provider of the BOM rivets that will sell them in low amount.

Dear Moderators / G members,
I suspect that the last post by muttonn might be a virus link. I googled that user name and see that this
user has been posting on many forums, but never much or any text. Seams strange that he posts my
text and them includes a link to a new German car??
Moderators, can you please remove last post if you share my concern.
Regards
Hinrik
