Hi All,
Just been looking on one of the other boards and came accross this.

Look at 30 seconds and you will see something interesting Bang goes the theory, or a one off?

I love that video.
I don't think any specification was given whether the inspection label should be on the inside or outside of the windshield. It was stuck on using a product manufactured by a UK company called Phenoglaze LTD.

I must of read this thread 3 times, and thought that it was mentioned a lot about the flag being stuck on the inside all the time. not so then Is that firm still in business?
Silly, I visit the Tool forum a little, where on earth do you come up with all them tools from? I'm still trying to get a set for my GPW.

That firm seems to of been in business several times operating from Croydon in London. It is currently not operating.jeepfinger wrote:Yes the only thing that spoils them is the watermark, it interferes with the viewingSilly's MB wrote:I love that video.

Most of the tools come from Car boot sales and autojumbles. Some come from Ebay and other G members. I still haven't got a correct full set for my MB either ! You have to let me know what you are looking for as I have a shed full of spanners most desired makes but not all sizes, its the other bits I struggle with !

Re: D-Day fording/flag sticker
The only Authentic Copies are those sold by Jack O' Bannion. I believe they were attached by spreading shellac on them. He also included some extra historic literature with them.
Only problem is that the originals are large enough that they restrict vision, especially on Jeeps and Closed Cab CCKW.
One of the engineers I worked with was an 18 year old soldier assigned to the engineers who was put on detail preparing Jeeps for D-Day.

Re: D-Day fording/flag sticker
Hello,
Excellent post !
Quick question, has anyone actually handled one of these original flags ?
It looks to me that they may have been the thickness and consistency of possibly a post card.
You can see on the torn one that some paper was removed from the back, but still had some material left.
So it looks thicker than just paper.
Are they being offered by Jack still ?
Maybe I should call
If not,
I wonder if these could be printed up in quantity by a postcard maker, or maybe better, a business card maker
who is equipped for doing this, like a big box of business cards ?
Thanks,
Ray

Thinner than Post card, and same as your computor paper. No "stickum", they used shellack or varnish.

Re: D-Day fording/flag sticker
Very interesting topic thread.
One of my uncles landed on D-Day, another arrived later.
I especially liked watching the video, and noticed that drill. I have one just like the one that guy is using. I also have a hand operated drill press which is painted OD. The chest drill I have isn't painted, but the drill press is painted OD, and I have always thought it was probably government issue, but I don't know how to tell.
Both of these drills were in my father's garage most of my life.
Dad had accumulated a large amount of WW2 stuff, most of which either came from my uncle "Tubby's" plunder, but a lot he had bought at the local "Army Surplus" store. Back in those days the surplus stores sold real surplus, and most of the stuff that store sold was WW2 stuff. All of us boys would ride bikes to that store which was at the other end of town. I remember me and my buddy eating "C" rations marked 1944, that was before anyone worried about "experation dates". Some of the rations we got also had little packs of five cigarettes in them that were so dried out they would catch fire and flame high when you lit one up.

Go to the web sight in the third reply. It is still active. You can print the fording flag.
