Hard to say since there are most likely many '43 GPW serial number data plates in this thread. Which one or ones are you referring to ?

Scroll back to page 12.
Good eye there Ben.

I take it this is the photo that you are referring to on page 12.

Image

Did you also pick-up that all three data plates in this photo are poor quality re-productions of the last type of Ford GPW data plates which were not in use in '43 along with incorrect mounting rivets, stamping fonts, stamped data location on the plate, and even the stamped data itself ? I guess not.

Given the above, to me at least, very little seen in the above photo holds much weight in discussing MB / GPW data plate manual markings.

Thanks for pointing this incorrect style of data plates out so GPW owners will know what not to buy if they want to do an original style military restoration on their GPW.

It is obvious that they are not correct, but is strange that not many have picked up on this set. Repro plates have been out there for over a couple decades, and left the owner a bit short when it came to authenticity.
Deruyter has changed all that.
I have a few early repros that I chose not to use after I bought them thru early Supply Line and from W.O.F.

Hi Ben,

The data plates in question belong to Gee member " Sandman1942 " . In reading his post above the photo he knew the plates were reproductions.

It would seem that my post ( seen below ) after the photo would answer most everyone's current and future questions about this data plate set so no further questioning of the plates have been needed until now.
Hello Sandman1942,

From my GPW studies and databases, I believe your GPW 111001 should have come from the Richmond, Ca. assembly plant.

The repop data plate on your GPW 111001 is partly correct. The 3125 in the weight box needs moved clear to the left part of the box. The 9th needs dropped from the DoD. Also the 9th of May, '43 was a Sunday which was not a work day at Ford as far as I can tell. All of the other stampings are in their correct location. The original three data plates on GPW 111001 would have been made of steel.

Thanks,\
I was looking for pictures, and went back for a second look after your reply. This is kinda like watching the "Antique Road Show" in O.D. color.

Renè, of course I knew of the usual meaning of W.O.F., but I was wondering how Ben Dover might have purchased repro plates "from W.O.F."

I have a few early repros that I chose not to use after I bought them thru early Supply Line and from W.O.F.

WOF repro data plates

Post by lucakiki » Fri Oct 31, 2014 8:25 am

When, if ever, did Willys Overland France manufacture reproduction data plates ?
