A friend asked me to post photos of his pre-war 5 gallon can to this thread. It is 10 3/4" high and 13 1/2" in diameter. Unfortunately, not for sale.

This topic is currently of great interest to me. I have a project where I need 4 cans of the 5 or 10 gallon variety to repurpose. I plan to buy new cans. So I need dimensions and color. I see at least one example is 10 3/4" high and 13 1/2" in diameter for 5 gallons. This is pretty close to current made 5 gallon tighthead drums. I need to measure my USAAF example but it seems to almost be the reverse of those dimensions. It's taller then it is wide. Where as the example posted by Ordnance is "squat". As I am doing a display that is representative of USAAF operations I'd like more of the USAAF type cans but I haven't seen modern made ones like that. The other question besides dimensions is OD or Galvanized? For my purposes I'll use a cold galvanizing spray or metal flake effect spray paint over the modern black paint on a new can if that's what I need. Or some 319.

Thanks
Matt
