SCR-300 or BC-1000
I posted questions earlier regarding a BC-1000 radio. It is also called a SCR-300. Those that have responded if this matters please let me know

Was this related to the power supply for your BC-1000? I was following and was particularly interested in the description of the replacement battery. I guess I should have screen shot the info.

The radio alone is a BC-1000.With all of the accessories it becomes SCR300.If you have a US made set I can pretty much guarantee it will not work without repairs.

Got it from a guy in italy....it turned on a couple times. My son crossed the polarity his last time powering up and after that it wouldn't work. At this point I'm looking for someone in the states that knows these things so I can get to the bottom of this thing.

You may have put high voltage to the filaments burning out all of the filaments. You need to check the filament of each tube. Also you more than likely fried the power supply. The power supply should have had a fuse not the radio as the radio has no fuses.

The power supply was a 6v battery

Re: SCR-300 or BC-1000
You can't run a BC 1000 with a 6 volt battery.Either the original PP-114 vibrator supply or some type of electronic power supply is required.

Any idea where to get said power supply? We have an inverter we got from over seas. As I said we'really new to this radio stuff. Trying to get it fired up correctly.

Re: SCR-300 or BC-1000
Your best bet is to build a battery pack with 9v and D cells. The PP-114 power supplies are extremely rare. You also need to check the filaments of each tube with an ohm meter.

Just turning on a vintage radio set without having it first looked over is a very bad idea. But that is water under the bridge now. Find yourself a local Ham Radio Club. They should be able to direct you to somebody who can repair your radio.
By the way, unless your BC-1000 has been modified to be capable of operating on 6 meters ( 51 MHz FM), don't transmit on it !!! The frequencies an unmodified BC-1000 are set to are used by first responders and business class radio operators. You could get into trouble messing around on those frequencies.

Re: SCR-300 or BC-1000
@stinson,
You are likely using that nice little inverter made in Italy with a 6V lead acid battery.
BTW if it's that power supply, it's made by a Pietro Noto (pietronoto@tiscali.it) or inverter45 on eBay .
You could contact him. There are chances that this inverter is using Power FET's in the DC-DC converter.
When your son has reversed the polarity, he has most probably fried the FET transistors inside the inverter.
You should find somebody with electronic skills and ask him to replace the power FET's.
Power FET are not very expensive (a few $ only).
Your BC-1000 is very likely intact and should work as before with the repaired inverter.
