Post by mulezilla » Tue Dec 05, 2017 4:45 pm

Does anyone have the part number for the 8 pin male connector to the power supply, or better yet one for sale?

The parts list I have lists only the Signal Corps stock number which is for the Cord and Connector- 3E4300-1. It is the same one used on the BC-620 and BC-659. Robert Downs who is very knowledgeable on all military radio gear may have what you are looking for.

These connectors are still made by Amphenol and others. You buy the insert (20-7 in this case) P for plug, S for socket, a shell, and cable clamp separately when new. Allied Electronics and Newark carry them for instance.

If you do an ebay search on the part numbers, they could be a bit cheaper.

Plug & Shell: M3106A20-7PP
Cable relief: CABLE CLAMP, 97-3057-1012-1, RUBBER BUSHING SHELL SIZE 20, 22

Modern shells are already OD.

Good Luck

Minor correction - The original nomenclature for the male connector body on the radio was AN3106-20-7P. The 1950's on nomenclature was MS3106A-20-7P. As mentioned, the latter can still be bought new but the least expensive version of it will be OD. The originals all had the aluminum parts either hard coat or heavy coat anodized, so if you bought a new one, you would need to disassemble and bead blast the OD off to make it look similar to the originals. And there is another "authenticity" problem with the connector. The standard -20 shell cable connectors come with a female by male threaded extension. The female side screws onto the threads on the back end of the connector body (either male or female connectors). The male end of the extension takes an AN3057-12 single saddle bar (or later an MS3057-12A double saddle bar) cable clamp. SO-240 and I forget the PL- number takes in one variant an AN3057-6 clamp. So you need a reducing extension barrel for that version. Two other versions that I've seen were made by Aero (bought by Cannon during the War). One has a typical Aero style single saddle bar clamp integral with the screw-on extension barrel. The third style has a most probably 316 SS screw on barrel with an internal rubber grommet and no actual clamp. On the latter version, the AN3101-20-7S connector was made by Aero but the back shell and seal assembly was made by a company in Chicago named Oxford-Artek. And finally, the SO-240 (but not the PL-???) on the cable coming out of the PE-97, 117 and 120-A (only) is equipped with an AN3??? (it's hell getting old) threaded weather-proof cap attached by a short chain. The cap, however, is not considered part of SO-240.

Anyway, I have plenty of the SO-240's of the version equipped with the AN3057-6. And I have some extra reducing back shells with AN3057-6 on them that will fit the MS3106A-20-7P
