I done some experimentation last year to see if i could lighten black wrinkle to green. Its actually very simple than you think. If you add a yellow pigment to the black wrinkle you will find it will turn green not dark yellow as you may expect. You keep adding in measured amounts to get the correct amount and then add orange, only a small amount to get that green brown tint. I actually matched the original color but was worried that the pigment may disrupt the wrinkle effect which it didn't. The only trouble i had was that the pressurized black wrinkle paint i robbed from a spray tin was that the it was hard to de-gas the paint. If i have normal black wrinkle paint from a tin not spray paint and the correct type of thinners for wrinkle then it would be very easy to make your own and spray from a air gun. Give it a try with some black wrinkle and some yellow pigment, let me know what you think.

Guys, any idea where this project is? I would be in for several cans. Had some years ago and loved it! Love to be able to buy some more.

Very best,

I have a BC1306 and GRC-9 and power supplys I would like to touch up so I could do with at least 8 cans, but I am in the UK. May be the UK g503 contingent could liase and bring some over in bulk, or get one of the jeep supply people over here that already buy from the States to bring it in.

There is not enough market here in the US for anyone to manufacture it.And the shelf life is also an issue.

I've got instructions for how I sprayed my SCR-284 with wrinkle paint-OD Greenon my page, about half way down, with a list of materials.
http://m37.crwdesigns.com/radio-set-scr-284/

also check http://m37.crwdesigns.com/r-100-urr-1944-morale-radio/ More step by step photos

one tip, very lightly coat with OD, do not go heavy over wrinkle coat. Light coats otherwise a heavy coat will fill in wrinkles

This black automotive wrinkle has a different wrinkle pattern than the Signal Corps wrinkle.I have seen people try to pass this off as original.

True, but you can vary the tightness or compression of the wrinkles by accelerating the heating process. This is a speaker housing I restored compared to original NOS Signal Corps finish, Pretty spot on.

I'm 99% certain that that voltage regulator cover is the original paint. Autolite regulators used in MBs and GPWs were finished in a "crackle finish" paint rather than wrinkle. I haven't been able to turn up a source for that sort of crackle paint yet, but I'm still looking.

Could be, you could achieve that finish by adding VM&P Naptha to paint too speed up drying process, making larger "wrinkles" or crackles, might be an interesting experiment

I have seen this company, but very expensive and typically Italian to deal with.
