Sir,

settle something for me if you can. I have heard that these tables existed during the war, but have never seen one dated before the 1950's. Is it that WWII versions of this are "that rare" or is it that there was some sort of different table that served the purpose?

Thanks, and good luck on your sale.

Are they the same as what you're selling?

True, but define "early" and "late". I've seen 50's dates and round legs.

Luke,

Actually David has it correct. The military folding tables started with the square legs and evolved to the round legs.

Here is an image of the QMC blueprint.

Image

The original date shown is 7/11/1935 with several revision dates ending in 1950 - square legs are the only type shown. Thus the square legs seem to be standard into the post WW2 time frame at least to 1950.

Another item seen changing over time is the table top material. Originally the table tops were made of several wooden boards or planks which made those tables rather heavy - this material changed over time to one piece plywood or formica material which made for a lighter table with a smooth top.

The table is very similar to the WWII table. The legs are different.

I have 3 of the ww2 tables. All ww2 will have wood slatts on the table. Square legs till 44 then round legs there after. I do have some 50's dated with square legs and plywood tops. But these were refurbised in the 50's.
Hope this helps you guys.

Hello Steve:

If the table is still available; could you give me an idea of shipping to Culpeper, VA 22701?

Thanks,

John Ruf
