USN Sleeping Bag query?

Post by SammyJD » Fri Apr 14, 2017 4:50 am

Hi

I got hold of this sleeping bag today from a guy who's father in law had it with him during the war. Looking on google I can only see one reference to it and that's on worthpoint and doesn't add much new.

It had a fair weight to it but doesn't look like the arctic sleeping bag, from pics I've seen. It's basically rectangular in shape (photo makes it look more 'shaped' than it is) with a slight tapering at the end. Has a fold over flap marked USN with three tie down straps

Be great if someone could help me..

I believe these are field bed rolls for the cots used during deployment. I have one, and it is marked to an ensign who served in VB-11, which was a Dauntless unit at Guadalcanal and then moved onto the USS Hornet. Careful with the fabric- mine was pretty lightweight and tore easily to the point it needed repairs.
