Re: CMP M1911 Information Update
What collectors and aficionados lust after and pay good money for are often just obsolescent or gathered up relics to be destroyed or otherwise disposed of...
WWII was no exception. Here are some $500 shooters and some probably rare and collectable $2000 plus pistols.....again, a LOT of them! The Artillery Model he is holding looks to be in pretty excellent condition by the way!
Rounded up in Norway after the surrender...

Re: CMP M1911 Information Update
I have seen some these pistols first hand in person at Anniston. The pistols are coming from the center for military history arms holdings at Anniston. The 250
pistol container i saw had an amazing assortment of beautiful pistols. Not junk. Some were used yes. Others mint. One was chromed! And engraved. I will tell you this..... from a collectir stand point... the cmp is no fool. They will go through these pistols with a fine tooth comb and there is no telling what they may or may not do. Only they know.

Re: CMP M1911 Information Update
The CMP is just a government sponsored corporation looking to make huge profits from US tax payers. They are not part of the US government and all profits go into their private pockets.A 1911A1 pistol cost the US government in 1945,$15.I doubt that the CMP paid the government much more than they cost originally.

With the numbers discussed in that video, Garand AND 1911 prices should fall through the floor!wreckless wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2018 7:50 amUpdate on First Shipment of Surplus 1911s

Re: CMP M1911 Information Update
So, I have never seen an answer to this. How does the CMP get their rifles? Do they pay for them, or are they simply given them?1911A1 pistol cost the US government in 1945,$15.I doubt that the CMP paid the government much more than they cost originally.
Simply curious

Re: CMP M1911 Information Update
The problem is they will set their prices at current market value without regard to the fact that they are flooding the market and should be driving the prices down. The number of Garands and pistols they talk in that video is what I would consider flooding the market.

Re: CMP M1911 Information Update
You know, in the past their prices haven't been that crappy. they were selling Garands for like $600 when the retail market was closer to $1,000 for decent stuff. I can only complain so much there. Same for their M1 carbines.
The common market for 1911a1s is higher than I am willing to pay right now. That being said, I won't pay good money for trash. You can overpay for a nice gun and eventually get your money back, but overpaying for a ratted out turd is a bad idea as breaking even will take years/decades in some cases. Based on what I am hearing, these aren't in good shape, and they aren't worth my money.

Re: CMP M1911 Information Update
I bought my Garand and Carbine through them and prices were reasonable. Best thing is you know they have been checked over unlike gun shows where who knows what is o.k. or not. If they set prices too high then sales will reflect that. I would not pay 900 for a run of the mill 45 if they ask that. We will see.

Re: CMP M1911 Information Update
I received my GCA journal today and had interesting story on CMP and costs. In January CMP brought back 86,000 Garand's from Philippines. They had to repack them as the crates they were in could not be imported due to possible termite infestation. They also could have possible had asbestos contamination so they had to get all dust removed. They had to pay for boat maintenance and the boat could not ship anything but rifles so they had to pay for whole boat expenses. Cost for that was 7 million and means rifles are 82 bucks each upon landing here. Also they have received 13,000 plus Garands from Turkey. We sent them 131,670 rifles and have gotten these and 8,850 in 2012. So 110,000 are still over there

Re: CMP M1911 Information Update
$82..... that’s a reasonable number. Hell...I’d happily give them 2-300 x profit margin....and probably buy a couple. Where do I send my C&R?
