Rainy Weekend Project

Post by mudflap » Fri Mar 09, 2018 3:34 pm

CCKW (or other HMV) owners: Looking for a quick rainy weekend project ?

At shows, I was always looking for a good way to display Old Glory along with my vehicle.

With a little scrounging and an online purchase of two rare earth magnets, I came up with these flag holders.

First I cut and trimmed some scrap pieces of wood that were laying around the shop. Next I counter-bored a recess for the magnet half way down the length of the block. After a little cleanup with a chisel, the magnet fits flush in the block.

Drilled a hole at the end for the flag, then add some OD paint and we’re ready to go. Those rare earth magnets are extremely strong. I think that they would keep those flag holders on that steel bumper in a typhoon, but giving them a quick twist allows them to be easily removed for storage until the next event.

Probably not strictly "regulation" but they work OK - without any permanent modification to the vehicle.

Best Regards...

Even I like it. There is nothing better than "no extra holes" needed.
