Wooden blocks on rear CCKW bumperettes

Post by zoob » Sun Jun 11, 2017 2:28 pm

I would like to know why some workshop bodies CCKW trucks had a large piece of wood bolted (with 4 bolts) to both rear bumperettes? I have seen a number of bumperettes with these 4 holes in them. Where other trucks similarly equipped? For reference purposes, please see pictures in David Doyle's GMC CCKW book.
