Sam, I don't post much but I been following your 969 build and WLF posts for several years. You are doing some great work, the 969 will really be something when you are done. I like the WW2 wreckers too and I'm pretty tickled to finally have a C2.

The oil pan would be off except it is hitting the front drive shaft and exhaust pipe, I haven't had time to disconnect the exhaust yet. I can see lots of surface rust on the crankshaft but the rods look pretty normal. I'll know more when I can get the pan all the way off.

We got the federal 94x43 & radio 1/2t dodge from that auction.
I really wanted this one also but try fit it in a container...

I got a lot of HXD engine parts, various sizes bearings and valves & gasket sets. So If you can't find a engine...

Edwin, this truck seemed to generate a lot of interest overseas. I have a friend who spent some time in England after the auction and several people in the hobby asked him about it. I'll keep you in mind for parts.

The one on ebay does not have it's boom. It has been on Craigslist before and has been for sale since at least February. The price has dropped 1K, it will be interesting to see if he gets any bids at that price.

Vince, I would love to see some photos of your friend's C2 and trailer.

I always thought that the F1 tractors and C2 wreckers were nearly identical except for the boom and the wheelbase, but I recently learned that the F1 cabs are narrower than the C2's. I always knew that the C2 had a wide 4 man cab and always assumed the F1's used the same wide cab. If you look at a C2 cab it overhangs the running board by about a foot. The F1 cabs are much narrower. It is hard to sit comfortably on the C2 running board as the cab hits you in the middle of the back !

The ebay C2 is now mine. With my wrecker needing an engine, a rear end, and who knows what else in the drive train, I decided this Federal was the best way to get all the parts I need. The truck runs, drives, builds air, and stops, and the air steering even works. On the bad side, the boom is missing and the cab is very rough with lots of rotten and missing wood, making it not the best candidate to restore back into a wrecker. However it has several other parts I need, including an original seat, viscosity guage, inertia starter, and even the hand crank for the inertia starter. The truck is still in Indiana, I'm hoping to get it home in the next couple of months and start evaluating how to proceed with both trucks.

What winch do these have on the back? There is a guy up kind of my way that has one for sale, no idea of what they are worth thought maybe you guys would have a need/use for one. Its a T4B model number on it. Up north Jeff its in MN if your interested.

Good score, Jeff. I'll be interested to see how it all works out.

Dague,
I dunno about in USA, but here in Australia, winch prices vary wildly.

I once bought a 980 winch for AU$50 and recently paid AU$2500 for an M1A1 rear winch, similar strength winches.

So, what a winch is worth? Depends on who is selling and who is buying (from my Ozzie experience).

Just saying . . . .
