That cobweb looks untidy enough to belong to a redback. Do you have them up your way?

Hi David,
No Red back spiders up this way. I think too hot for them. I live on 6 acres, parents ex cane farm. We sold off the farm and have all the houses and sheds so the main issue I have is snakes. Very bad ones too.
Taipans, Yellow belly Black and King Browns. I have lost a few dogs over the years to snakes. Only good snake is a dead one. I have a 3yr old girl and a 4mth old boy so all snakes I find are killed. Just too dangerous.
Should post more photos today of the GMC

Yeah you are correct Alfred. They look much stronger on your truck. I think mine will need upgrading for sure.

Finally time to Work again
Finally.................
Sorry for the delay fellow Military Heavy Vehicle lovers. Just not enough time with work and sick family to do much in the 4-6 weeks. But it has started to finally calm down here in Far North Queensland.
Before I go to much further I need to say ...................MERRY CHRISTMAS G503, I hope everyone had a great Christmas day.
Ok all I can is OMG......it took hours to get the tray of the GMC. And everything was already undone. Mainly the issue was just not enough correct length chains and lifting straps. I think we change the position of how we set up the straps at least 10-15 times just to get it safe and to get it lifting up level. But once we had it correct it came up just nice.

Re: CCKW Nth QLD Australia
Once I had the tray removed. The whole job did not look as daunting as it did 2 hours before. I was really scratching my head and saying to myself " what have I gotten myself into"
There are two pieces of timber the run the length of the tray in between the tray and the chassis. Both with have to be replaced due to old age. What I did notice is that both of them have been counter sunk to allow for the rivets that hold the chassis together. I will also need to replace the other pieces of locating timbers for the U bolts as well.
After I gave the chassis a bit of a degrease and wash, it look very good. No visible signs of rust or damage anywhere. I will bring home my large pressure washer from work during the week and give the whole rear chassis a good clean to get any excess dirty and paint off the chassis and around the diffs.

Technical Manual TM-9-1801
Hi, 6x6
Do you mean you want the Gearbox and Transfer case part numbers on the outside of the cases ? If so I am high pressure washing the chassis and underneath the GMC tomorrow, so I should have all the numbers by late tomorrow.
I have a original copy of TM 9-1801 ( Ordance Maintance, Power train, Chassis and Body )
If you need to know anything let me know.
Cheers
Justin

Re: CCKW Nth QLD Australia
Hi Joe,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
I was going to ask the question about that undercoat colours. You said original chassis black. Now I have seen red oxide, greyand even a pastel yellow and you said original black.
Reading the G503 forums wether it be Jeeps, weapon carriers, Artillery or Trucks everyone has a different opinion. What is the correct original undercoat colour for the GMC and US6 Studebakers ?
Not that it really matters as once the olive drab or Marine Green goes over it u never see it again. But it think and I could be wrong but a grey undercoat would be a easier colour to colour over rather than a red oxide ?
Cheers

Re: CCKW Nth QLD Australia
Pressured washed the GMC chassis, frt and rear diffs and Gearboxes today. At least when I get around to pulling everything apart it is kind of clean before I get into it.
I have decided to start the body work first, as I think it will take the longest. So I started with the tray. And all I can say it OMG. It has been patched and re patched heaps of times. Some stake pockets have be cut and shut, some have even been brazed welded and some have just had pieces of metal put over the holes. But I will get it fixed. Would love to find a straight, clean and no rust tray, but that would be like me finding a one owner GPW jeep with matching numbers and George Patton's 3 star helmet under the rear seat. It just does not happen......
So here are some photos of what I have started. I need a new wire wheel and spacer block for my 6 inch grinder. For some reason, I cannot find the spacer anywhere and when I try to locate the cutting wheel it rubs on the housing. And the wire wheels I have are stuffed.
Now I have the tray off I will order the new stake pockets from VOV early next week.
Cheers

Re: CCKW Nth QLD Australia
Also I removed the timber locaters for the tray U Bolts.
Most are not in bad condition considering the age. But I will have new ones made.
Cheers
