The one illustration from the book is the Russian GAZ 51, which you can read about on Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GAZ-51" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The dump truck looks pretty good and might be our "sasquatch studebaker." But we all know about all the "M35A4's" being built nowadays with a shorter wheelbase and single rear axle. Some day, they'll be pondering its place in the military vehicle history books.

I would like to see the truck and have somebody who knows the US 6 go through it to see what exactly it is. Stranger things have happened. A friend told me about his father's prototype WWII airborne jeep-like vehicle years ago that was bought right after the war at a War Assets Administration sale, and it is nowhere in Crimson's book because he bought it just to look for it. Unfortunately, we never found a photograph of it in the family archives and he passed away. There is a lot of stuff that got built in WWII that we won't ever know about. I think it is possible this is a real vehicle, but would reserve judgement until a real expert examined it.

If the bid is real and putting it's pedigree aside......someone got a pretty neat and old titled truck assembly for a good price.

Winch,4x4 and flat fenders, you can't go wrong.

That golf balled roof and color difference makes me think the cab had a hard work life on another chassis.

If you look at the rear axle in the pictures, it appears to still have the lug on it for the torque rod suggesting it was originally out of a 6x6 - a nice looking little truck though.

Studebaker built upwards of a quarter millon 2 1/2 ton 4x6 and 6x6 military trucks, during WW2.They also built in small numbers 1 1/2 ton 4x4 trucks. Almost all their production went to lend-lease world wide. With a huge chunk to Russia.
If you ever happen to find a Studebaker 1 1/2 ton 4x4, buy it ! They're almost as good looking as the WW2 Chevrolet 1 1/2 ton 4x4 and a thousand times more rare.

I have a friend that wanted me to say that he believes this truck was built (shortened with G506 bed added) by David Arnold of Spokane Washington and the photo was taken in David's front yard in Spokane.

Studebaker tractor/trailer combinations are very rare. The only one that I have heard of and have seen belonged to Axel Terrang from Sweden. That was back in '94.

On the topic of 6x6 to 4x4 conversions. A huge number of CCKWs were left in New Zealand at wars end and most if not all passed into the hands of a single dealer. Transport regulation was such that a tandem drive truck was far more expensive to register than a single axle vehicle so the dealer converted many of the CCKWs to 4x4 configuration. The conversions were done in their workshops to a set design and were not just a lash up job.
Such trucks would cause confusion today if you didn't know the back story.

No, it is not, owner says it was cut and welded from a 6X6.
