Hi Guys - A friend of mine is restoring a Chevrolet G506 Cargo, and he asked me as a former '506 owner if I knew how the COWL VENTILATOR SEAL is fitted - to the cowl body or to the vent lid. Also - what type of material is it made from?
He is busy, so I offered to do the legwork and ask the question for him on this forum.

I purchased one from Chev's of the 40's back in 1998 for my 1st. Chevy as well. I recall it being die cut from open cell black foam. It held water really well, so well in fact I got rid of it. I then brushed mold release wax into the channel where the seal rests and filled it with Dow Corning 795 construction sealant. I used black of course and let it cure with the cowl vent open. After 5 days, the sealant had cured properly and I was able to remove my new rubber seal. I cleaned the parting wax off everything and pushed the new seal back into place for a nice tight fit. It worked better than the foam one.

Dave has a lot of experience in the use of different sealants, looks like he has found a better way.
My CCKW only gets wet when I wash it. The cowl vent seal is dry most of the time and going on 11 years.

The cabover is on hold...I bought the M135 for the frame and axles from Mr Lockwood...but the kids and boss liked it too much so it is being worked on now...and the 302 from it goes into the cabover parts pile ..when I have room for another frame. As far as 33rd Signal, I was more than happy to help him out as his info he has has helped me so much!
