Hello Davis,

I do not know where or if they put a chassis serial number on these trucks.
It usually was on a small plate attached to the firewall of the cab, under the hood.
Sometimes it may have been on the door frame area.

I also think that by looking on the internet, your serial number may actually be your engine serial number.
That number could have been used as the identifier for your truck and others from this era.

Hopefully some of the Australians that have these trucks can add the missing information !!

Here is a nice link to GM Canada during the War: Also you can see your pintle hitch :D

Chevrolet USA during the War :

On the WW2 GMC US Army cargo trucks, they stamped a serial number along the outside edge of the passenger side frame rail under the fender.

Your truck is a special case, and more info is needed but many have these trucks, but few in the US have this British style special model.
I think Maple Leaf Up members have the information as they have several of these trucks restored.

Does your truck have any screw holes on the cab fire wall, where a data plate may have been attached ?

Keep us updated !!!

Best Regards,

Ray

Davis,
Below is a picture I have stored on my computer.
Unfortunately I do not have any information about it.

It appears to be a 1940 Chevrolet.
The wood body is nearly identical to yours, and you will note that someone fabricated the metal top on your truck to match the shape of the original canvas cover over the drivers seat.

Image

The canvas top is secured to the front fenders/mudguards on this truck, but I would guess that it was secured to the hooks on the sides of the cowl on your truck.

Davis,

Another 1940 truck captured by the Germans.
Notice the Broad Arrow in the square painted under the driver side headlamp. Your truck also has the remains of a painted square under the driver side headlamp.

Photograph was found at the link below.
You may want to do some searching of the Australian War memorial site regarding India built trucks, as it is mentioned on the page containing this photo .
