Drive flange gaskets G506
The rear wheel drive flanges (axle ends) on the Chev 1 1/2 ton have terne plate gaskets between the flange and the wheel hub. Are there also paper gaskets and in which order do they go on? Thanks.

Just the Terneplate. Do not substitute with paper. Seal with Permatex #3. These are a weak spot due to the flange being secured by 7/16" NC Bolts. They should be checked for tightness periodically as the holes in the hub will wear and ruin the hub. It was common to see these banjo axle shafts welded to the hubs due to worn threads.

So what is the function of the terne plate? Definition just talks about the plating process and that it lasts a long time????

It's soft and has a friction factor when sandwiched between two surfaces. And, it works.

Re: Drive flange gaskets G506
Here are some terne plates, I believe that these are for the banjo axles. I gained experience from NOT having these between the hub and axle flange. Bolts kept breaking under off-road conditions, sometimes it was as many as four at a time. They were correct replacements and grade 8 to boot. When I found more terne plates I installed them and the broken bolt syndrome vanished. Hope this helps.

A few hundred thousand Banjo CCKW's and G-506's can't be wrong. These WWII GM trucks required close attention to correct axle flange gasket type and wheel bearing adjustment, especially on the rears. The Army had a pretty good maintenance system, these trucks usually suffered in the hands of civilian users un less they were in the hands of an Army trained WWII veteran.
