WTB G506 Harmonic Balancer

Post by forestry4evr » Fri Jan 05, 2018 4:08 am

Looking to get either a rebuildable core or NOS Chevrolet 235 harmonic balancer (HB). Need a HB with the original 7/8 wide pulley. Please check your junk piles for the long discarded original babbit engines that most likely bit the dust many moons ago.

Would you happen to know if a ww2 235 harmonic balancer fits late model 235 ? Takes the same seal? Is a 216 balancer the same as ww2 235? I may know where to find 216.

The harmonic balancers from nearly any Chevrolet 216/235/261 will fit and work on any combination of Chevrolet crankshaft snouts. The timing cover seal is the same for all applications previously mentioned. The big difference is that the G506 HB has a 7/8 pulley width whereas the other civilian applications are either 5/8 or 3/8 depending on year. The pulley is riveted onto the HB hub, and therefor not very interchangeable.

Thanks for the information. I need to change the balancer on my truck . I have a late model truck 235, I used a adapter plate , lowering pump location, old style pump. You know the deal. They claimed that having a truck balancer the belt would sit lower making the ratio acceptable. I found that to be incorrect. At least for a high rpm slow truck. Water pump speed to fast. I have a ww2 balancer, water pump and a 7/8 pulley for the 12v generator. Have to pull radiator and swap parts someday.

Still on the look out for a decent G506 harmonic balancer with a 7/8 inch diameter pulley.
