Got my manuals today and several photos and indications are that the front bumper markings are unit and vehicle number, the same as other military vehicles, and, like other military vehicles, thre rear bumperettes have the same or similar markings. But, the same markings also appear on the rear tailgate.
Just curious why markings would be needed on the bumperettes AND the tailgate. Don't know if the tailgates disappeared? Seems to be the same duplicate markings on G506's and CCKW's.
I'll hang up and listen.
Markings on G506 Rear End. Just a question.

Best thing to do would be to pick a unit and then research that unit. There were variations of markings amongst theaters and amongst different organizations.

Any chance it could be in case the tailgate is down?

Re: Markings on G506 Rear End. Just a question.
On the jeeps, the rear markings are on the bumberettes, the rear panel is filled with jerry can and spare tire, no room. On the photos I'm seeing of G506's and CCKW's it's redunant and on both the tailgate and bumperettes. The tailgate up or down was a thought, but with the tail gate down, it doesn't cover the bumperettes which can be seen. So, again, no the ID of the markings per unit, but why on both the tail gate and the bumperettes.
It may be that only the photos I'm seeing in the manual is from a particular unit or theater of operations and it may not be universal. But if it is, I'm just wondering what the purpose was to do both.
