G506 found in jungle
Well, it wasn't really found in a true jungle...but in an Eastern Tennessee thicket. Saw this old truck while in my travels and finally stopped by to check it out. It was last used in the 1990's to haul slab wood for a little sawmill. She looks like it was run hard and put up wet. From what I can tell, it appears to have once been an auger or pole setter truck. Age is uncertain but has many of the characteristics of a 1943+ truck.
Grill has integrated blackout drive light conducive with a mid-late war truck.
Here is the side view, couldn't get the entire truck in the frame as the brush was rather thick.
Late 1950's car 235 was installed in this truck. Notice that there are no suppressors on the firewall? Were auger/pole setter trucks assembled without radio suppressors?
Bubba removed the pintle and bumperettes when the early model Galion hoist was fitted.
Standard critter nest installed in the header panel so it is certain to be rusted out. Notice the rectangular cutout in the roof that once housed the periscope.
Extra frame support for the large midship winch.
Unfortunately all of the original auger/pole setting fixtures and apparatus are long gone on this truck. The data plates were too corroded to read. Any idea whick body was once on this truck, any telltale remnants? I am sure you signal corp. guys would be able to see something that would offer some clues.
Hope you enjoyed the images.

Also, for the record, note the yellow color. Seems to be a thing with these, per your earlier thread on this.

True. But that truck would take up 1/4 of my "yard".

Yes the Yellow cab color sure has been common lately hasn't it? The guy that owns this truck said he bought it from a guy that bought it at a DOT auction some time back in the 1970's. It stands to reason that back in the day when there were few 4WD vehicles around that state DOT's would like old G506/508 trucks.
DC John, I would be happy to extract this old girl and stage it at the farm so that you can arrange transportation...
In all reality this one looks like nothing more than a parts truck, and I don't see too many useable parts. If the owner would come down on his price to meet current steel scrap perhaps I would have some interest. Do you guys see any useable parts?

I think your assessment is correct. Probably only good for the mechanical parts. Just a shame to see those get scrapped, but probably will turn out to be their fate.

Re: G506 found in jungle
Yellow color.. Now I have seen this on a LOT of trucks regardless of their know history or location.
I am under the impression that it's the original olive drab that fades like this.. Over time.. Sun faded I mean?
Maybe I'm wrong and it's a paint color of a forestry or highway crew truck painted post war. But again I have parts from recovered trucks from south western dessert to high plains areas like Wyoming as well as New England and west Texas and beyond. And all have this dull "yellowish" faded paint somewhere on its body panels.
So again not trying to appear as an expert but is it possible that the old WW 2 paint pigments fade to this yellow tint over time?

I know as of 1943 the K44/K43 had suppressors, and as far as which model, i woul have to see the floor cut outs or more midsection photos

It's a K44 or K43 as I'm not sure if the chassis of the K43 is also reinforced like the K44.

Re: G506 found in jungle
So from the consensus, it does look like this truck was originally a K43 or K44.

Why do you suppose a previous owner made a metal ring to fit over the axle shaft bolts? Also check out the number of hand holds on the rim.

Re: G506 found in jungle
So instead of bolts through the axle shaft, into the hub, they've used studs and nuts?? Perhaps that's why the extra ring, just a spacer?
