1941 G4112 Chevrolet Class 110 Airfield Crash Truck

Post by ljspoon » Sat Aug 15, 2015 8:19 pm

I responded to a Craigslist add For a 1941 Military Chevy $450. The truck was close to where I live and I wanted a new project from the WWII era. I figured that it was the standard cargo model and would have to source a box for it. When I went to look at, I was happy to see that it was mostly complete but the data plates seemed to be missing. Thinking that for the price I couldn't pass it up. We pulled it out of the weeds and loaded it up, it took up the entire trailer and the rear duals had to be removed but it fit. After getting it home and examining it closer, I found a data plate on the drivers side, lower kick panel and frame stampings under a bit of rust and paint. The data plate identified it as a Class 110 Holabird Crash Truck with a date of 6-11-41 USA numder W50709. The data plate matched the stampings on the frame as well and the engine number listed on the plate matched the serial number of the engine. I am happy with my find and excited to restore it, unfortunately I may have to attempt to fabricate the crash truck box. I was hoping that someone could provide measurements and some detail pictures of the box and apparatus.

From what I can tell on the different web sites it was supposed to look like this one.

Welcome to the "G". I suspect the cab an chassis on your new find are a little older than the tag indicates, it is definitely a YP series truck. Are any data plates on the glove box door?

I don't know much about the crash/fire trucks, but this may help:

Best of luck with your new project.

There were no signs of the plates on the glove box and only one above the windshield. It is a YP truck and has the numbers on the frame. I have been collecting all the pictures that I can find of the Class 110 trucks as well as information. Here is a picture of the frame stamping.

I have a neighbor with a 1941 International Fire Truck. The bed looks similar to the one in the manual scans. I'll look at it and see what he is doing with it. He is a WWII veteran.

Here are some pictures of a Class 110 Airfield Crash Truck I came across. I wanted to add the pictures since the original poster of this thread was looking for some. Unfortunately the truck is quite far from me. It originally belonged to an Uncle of my wife who sold the truck many years ago. There is a remote chance I can acquire it. It was running some 15 years ago and it has set all this time. It seems pretty straight and complete.

Curious to know what the value of something like this might be. It was manufactured 12 of 1941
