Nice looking wheel.
Roberto, ask Julio to check in once in a while, we'd like to see how his truck is coming.

Re: G-506 - Restoration - Brasil
One of the parts that we have attention is the steering box. With already explained this topic viewtopic.php?f=25&t=224212&hilit=steering+box+crack. It can be material fatigue and with it come the cracks in the ribs.
What is installed on my G- 4112 we have had a repair done at some time in their past.Still new cracks appeared.
The solution was to make a filling welding. The appearance was not the best, but I hope for a few more years I did not suffer with it.
The thread holding the steering wheel was also damaged.
Other photos of the process:

Hi Roberto,
The later steering boxes were a little more substantial with bigger gussets, I welded mine up and then added my own gussets.

I'm guessing it's cast steel and not cast Iron?

Thanks Draganm,
The steering box is cast iron and I stick welded it with 1/8'' nickel electrodes. I don't remember the brand name, they were sold at the local welding supply shop in 1lb packages. FYI the gussets were just mild steel. Let us know how you make out and don't forget to pre heat and keep it warm.

Re: G-506 - Restoration - Brasil
After a long time without putting any news, I will update the information of my restoration. In this topic viewtopic.php?f=25&t=232009&start=15. I put some photos of the seats that came in the truck. The seat no longer had its frame replaced with wood and the seat back was badly damaged. With the help of the photos here of the forum and also with access to a seat of a civil Chevrolet I was able to take the measurements and reproduce the frames. I used OD canvas.

Good to hear from you Alberto...I feared the alligators had gotten you.
You Brazilian guys are masters at remanufacturing components. Very nice! You should be cruising real soon.

Re: G-506 - Restoration - Brasil
Paul, thank you.
Thank goodness the alligators live more than 1500 miles from here.
The difficulty of finding the parts forces one to use creativity to manufacture them. The seats were a "stone in my shoe". I was fortunate enough to find an antique vehicle collector distant 20 miles from my city that has a 1946 Chevrolet civilian truck. The seats are the same as the military model. I took lots of pictures and the measurements to make all the hooks and the frame according to the pictures.
Another home-made part was the gas tank tube. I was able to manufacture thanks to the pictures posted here in the forum. The tube nozzle and cap were donated by an old VW Beetle gas tank that has the same diameter. Unfortunately I did not find the curved tubes in the same diameter, so the reduction. It was very similar to the original. One day, if luck smiles at me, I'll find an original tube.
The battery holder was also a home-made part with the precious help of the pictures I found in this forum.

Roberto,
Nice job on the seat frame, necessity is the mother of invention.

Some photos of troop seat construction. I used a Brazilian wood, very hard and resistant to termites. This wood is known as Ipê or Cumaru (Dipteryx odorata). The service is not yet complete. There are still minor adjustments and sanding to give the final finish before painting in OD.

I also made a simple drawing to guide me during the construction that can be useful for those who want to build their troop seat.
