G-506 - Restoration - Brasil
I bought this G506 a few years ago in a distant city 770 km from where I live. It was used on a farm to load potatoes and fertilizer. His condition was reasonable, it was a good restoration project.
He is a model of the early production. The cabin has characteristics of a civilian model: ashtray, fillet finish and absence of light illumination of the military panel.
The battery holder also does not belong to this truck. He is a CCKW support that was adapted at some point in his life. It is likely that the battery is under the floor and was dropped for the installation of hidrovac in any rebuild.
The battery holder of the installation holes were not made at the factory.
The cabin has no cutout to access to the fuel filter. The hole in the chassis where it was installed hidrovac air filter was not done in factory.
The engine is a Chevrolet from the 60's of the same family. It is likely to have been exchanged for use in the Brazilian Army.
Some photos of the current stage of the restoration. I can work on it only a few hours on weekends.
Regards

Roberto,
Looks like you had a real nice truck to start with, that makes life much easier. It is nice to see another YP model truck still alive.

Re: G-506 - Restoration - Brasil
Paul,
thank you. You are right when you said that this truck does not use junction blocks.
See the photo that the four mounting holes of the box and nuts for closing the cover does not exist.
Kirk is correct in your comment. It is likely that the hidrovac was installed in a rebuild, perhaps in the field.
I believe that were used tools available for making the air filter holes and the battery bracket holes on the chassis. Not the best or correct.
I have only the wiring diagram of the military models. I'm finishing the wire harnesses according to the military model because I did not know this information that harnesses were different.
Does someone have the diagram of the civil model to help me?
Regards

Paul,
another detail I forgot to comment. I think the grill was also replaced at some point in life of the truck. It should be the same as your truck with the continuous iron bar.

Re: G-506 - Restoration - Brasil
Roberto,
The wiring diagrams for civilian, YP, ZP and N series trucks are all just schematics so they wont help you much for placement. Components on all models are essentially the same. The main difference I can think of between your original YP and the later ZP and N's (all with GI gauges) is the incorporation of the junction block, the dash harness is a little different as the GI gauge trucks received two fuses placed on the center dash bracket, and the later trucks did not have a 3-position instrument cluster illumination switch. Of course later radio suppressed trucks received much more changes in the wiring harness.
It does look as though your truck received a few parts from a later model donor...the grille, tow hooks, glove compartment door, and gauge cluster are the items I noticed. All minor items in the scheme of things. Lots of things happen in 75 years.
Your restoration looks great!
Paul

Re: G-506 - Restoration - Brasil
Paul,
Thank you for the information. So the correct name of my model is the G-4112, W-398-QM-8278 contract number and serial number prefix had YP.
Unfortunately there was no longer any marking on the chassis or panel so I could determine the correct serial number.

Roberto,
I don't recall if I've mentioned this to you before, but I have a scanned maintenance manual for the early trucks, available in the files section here:

Another adaptation that found in G-4112 is that it received the emergency brake on the transfer case. Note that the chassis lane was cut with a blowtorch.

Looks like the electrical system was changed to 12 volt. I have a correct NOS 6-volt 25 amp Delco-Remy military style regulator if interested. Be a bit for shipping though from western USA.

Roberto,
Here are a few images of the wiring on my 2/41 truck.
Firewall during teardown.
Same location today with new harness installed
The other side of the firewall as it is today
Front drivers side wiring junction
The insides of an original 25 amp voltage regulator

Re: G-506 - Restoration - Brasil
I send some pictures of the wiring harness G4112. It was made with the information sent by Kirk (manual) and Paul (photos). Thank you so much!!! Importing a harness has very high values. The import tax in my country almost doubles the value (in US dollars) and our currency is undervalued compared to US currency. To buy one US dollar I need 4.2 units of our currency.
For these reasons my option was to make the harness, as close to the original.
After studying the wiring diagram and photos I made a harness model. Common electrical cables were used, with PVC cover, because here there are no cables with cotton cover. The cable ends were coated with a cotton tube that was once used in insulation of electric motor coils. Cotton tubes were colored with dye clothes to try to get a similar color to the original. OK, it was not so close as well. It is very difficult to combine the dyes. To identify cables (it was not possible to make the straps) I used numbered labels. The harness was covered with a black cloth tape. The entire assembly received waterproofing. I hope that the result is approved. The cost of materials was less than $ 75.00. In this account are not added up my hours of work and beers.

Beautiful work and the harness is very nice! I am impressed with what you accomplished with limited access to parts.
