I'll try, joe, starting a new tread if I can.

U should be able to do it yourself, joe, as long as the picture files aren't too big.

This is how I do it:

I take pics of the truck using my cell phone. I send them to my computer, using the resizing option of the file, keeping it under 400 Mb in size (I think?) I store pics on my desktop.

Then when I post, I attach the file by going out into my computers desktop and attach. If the file is small enough it will let you attach it. If too big it will tell you it's over the maximum size.

Give it a try

well Dad and Mom visited us over the past holiday, flying in from Massachusetts to DFW where we picked them up for a two week stay at "the cabin" in OK.

Mom remembered to bring a few pics of my Dad, from his album, when he was in service, most of these taken when he was in England.

I thought this one interesting of him next to his "new" 6 ton truck" he was issued. (or his unit was issued, but he drove it)

New? It appears to be a 6 ton of ww2 vintage. Anyone fathom a guess at the manufacturer? White? Federal? to me, looks like a Corbit? from images I have seen online.

it appears to be a cargo truck, and not a wrecker, as he remembered well the Federal wreckers he drove, along with all the other ww2 vintage trucks like CCKW with dumps, jeeps and they even had one half track in their unit . what for he couldnt remember why they had it.

Hey Dave, what's up with the resto project on your dodge? Are you all finished? Haven't seen a posting in a while.

Heya bob. Not much to report. Still finding occational "squeaks" and "rattles" I hunt down.

Just finished re-detailing the engine bay for the two upcoming car shows next month.

Driving it here and there.. Take it to town occationally where I get way too many people wanting to chat about it.
Small town like this everyone wants to talk about it.

It's fun to drive this time of year and I had better get using it more before the real heat gets here!!

Btw.. See you in early July old buddy

The truck in your dad's photo is a Corbitt 50SD6 or White 666 6 ton 6x6 prime mover. It's pretty cool to have those old images.

That's a Crosley Pup CT3 next to it in this photo.

I just realized I posted a closed cab. This one has the open cab like the one in your photo.

08-30-17

ITS been awhile now since posting, as I really havent done a lot other than little fine tuning as I drive it.

however, that said, one thing I never finished was mounting the tailgate cast tie down hooks.

the tailgate as purchased did not have provisions for the tie down hooks, so after careful measurements of my old tailgate (Which I saved, and glad I did) I removed the original hooks, cleaned them up and drilled the holes for locating them on the new sheet metal.
using some hex head, M6 x 12MM long button head screws (the best size for body diameter and head to match the original rivet heads) I placed on the tailgate.
I filled the Hex head recess in with bondo, sanded smooth and painted. Looks pretty darn nice I think.

next, the tailgate as purchased was "lacking" a bit in the latching area. after looking at my original tailgate, I decided to rework my reproduction one to make it look better.

after removing, cleaning and placing, using again button head screws, I secured the latches in the original place.I like these better as they capture the tailgate in both directions, lessening the side to side flex of the bed sides. the repop latches were simple flat iron tacked to the side.. givae no side to side stability.

anyway, a couple of pics.. before and after.

Looking good. I am nearly ready to secure my rear axle to the frame. Your posts help urge me on.

Nice looking tailgate Dave. You might think the guys out there producing reproduction tailgates would make a better more exact replica. Geeze

Yea glad u are encouraged!
Posts by others like Phil and zephyr did the same for my projects enthusiasm!

Yea I agree, bob, on the reproduction tailgates.
If they went a little extra on them it sure would help. I guess it's a matter of cost vs demand too.
And also if you remember when jeep repro bodies came out they were sorely lacking too. Many improvements have been made as time went on. Perhaps the dodge parts will improve with time as well.

I know that one supplier (VPW?) even makes the cast tie hook now, and too me that seems like the hardest part to reproduce. So maybe some day a supplier will make the proper tailgate complete with factory type latches and tie down hooks installed with rivets etc some day
.

I got em there.. on the flat brackets attached to bed side uprights.

Some trucks had em
On the gate, others on these brackets.

Dave, could you please post the lengths of the two battery cables and where they get hooked up to. I'm having a hard time finding out how long to make the 1/0 cables.

thanks
