restored K51
Hello,
I want to share some pictures of my restored panel K51. As it is impossible to find an original SCR299 I used a SCR399 and with the help of the manuals and the little information on the net I made it look as original as possible. All the radios and transmitter work, only the generator PE95 need some attention.
Any comments and information are welcome.
Greetings,
Ryck

Where are you located?
Yours doesn't have the roof vent?
What year?
Post a couple of more pictures of the outside please.
Thanks!

Re: restored K51
I am from Luxembourg(Europe)
As the truck has no data plate I have to guess, but due to all the early items I think it is from the first batch of NG model, maybe end 41. While restoring it inside I found the yellow primer as on the slat grill j**p.
You are absolutely right, it does not have the roof ventilator. The previous owner adder the side extensions, cable reels and antenna, but it was never a K51 in military service. I always wanted to have one like this, so it was the chance to take; you know the game.
I newer found out what is fastened to the right side, rear of the assistent driver seat; if someone has this information? Are there other k51 owners out there?
The last picture is a detail of the antenna cable routing and attachment of chest CH88 to the wall

Hi Ryck.
Seriously guy, that is a neat truck you have there. I remember seeing your posting recently where you showed the exterior, but this is the first time I have seen the interior. Very interesting to see.
I also have a g506 panel, which I am pretty sure was a K51 originally, but I do not have much knowledge about how they are supposed to be set up. Yours seems to be on the right track though. Thanks for sharing. I hope to hear more about it and see more of it as we move along.

Fordm8,
The truck looks great,I LOVE the paint job.
The real story here is the 70 year old radio equipment and that you were able to find all the different components and get them working. Can you send and receive Morse code? Do you have Buddies in the area that can also send and receive? That would be a Ton of fun.
Thanks for posting,
Kelley

Re: restored K51
Thanks guys for the positive feedback.
Tony could you tell the first number of the VIN, to know where they where build?
I had the chance to have a look at two K51 in Belgium, where I took pictures and measurements to get it as original as possible.
I made the ham radio licence , so I also had to learn the morse code, but I am not really good in it( slow). The valve tube technique was new to me, but there are good original manuals for it. I tried the working of the radios with the signal generator and the transmitter with the oscilloscope. I will try to contact other operators in spring when the chevy is on the road again.
Here is an original picture from the inside to enjoy

Hi Ryck,
The serial number on my truck starts with 9 (9NG06), so that would be Norwood, Ohio according to info that I have.
