Parts needed for 1942 Chevy G7113 Tractor

Post by 42G7106 » Sat Jan 04, 2014 6:34 am

Hello to all. I have started to restore my 1942 Chevy G7113 tractor and need some parts. I am in need of the rear fifth wheel plate and mounting, spare tire holder and mounting, drivers side tool box? and some rear BO lights. These are the major items I am looking for along with all the normal stuff like wiring harness, front axle kits, brakes, etc... Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have a couple more G506 trucks and have rounded up a few parts off e-bay but if anyone could point me in the right direction as where to find a good source for parts, I would appreciate it very much. I am also looking for any kind of World War Two fifth wheel trailer to pull behind this truck if anyone knows of one for sale. Thanks for your help.
Brian

Have you tried http://vehiclesofvictory.com/? They sell Parts. You could also get a Wiring Harness from Vintage Wiring of Maine.

Your truck looks like it's been well cared for, the sheet metal and bumper are nice and straight.

Thanks Kelley,
The sheet metal is pretty good compared to some others I have seen. It does have some bullet holes in it on the passenger side though. Passenger door does have some rust just starting to show thru. I do have another door of a 41' G506 I have that I might use. How bad does it hurt the value of these truck by using a civilian cab for a restoration? I have another G7106 that the cab is pretty beet up. I found a beautiful 41' civi cab that I could save a lot of money on body work. Just don't know how bad it will hurt the value of truck.

Brian,

Nice truck and welcome to the "g". The way the white paint is lifting, you may be able to pressure wash your truck to make it green again.

For the fifth wheel parts you may try getting up with a guy named Dan that goes by the nickname baldybenny on the Stovebolt site. He lives in Idaho and seems to be WAY into old large Chevys/GMCs. I bet the civy/GI parts are the same and who knows, you may get lucky.

As for hurting the value of a GI Chevy by using a civilian cab, I don't think it would matter that much. In fact, they are so similar that after filling a few windshield hinge holes and fuel filler neck opening nobody would be able to tell the difference. If your 41 is a later model, the right rear cab corner would also need to be cutout, but it should be relatively straight forward to achieve a factory appearance. The main wiring harness location on the firewall moved from high to low during the Deco cab production, so beware of the difference if authenticity is important.

Good luck, and I look forward to seeing some more images of your project.

Thanks for the welcome and info. I appreciate every ones thoughts on these trucks. I have restore a few muscle cars back in the day, but these are my first military trucks I have owned and now I am hooked. I can't get enough of them. I am always looking for more. I don't know much about them, but I want to learn more and all the input from you guys is always welcome and greatly appreciated! I see you have a G7106, I have one as well. It came with the original Govt. surplus title and bill of sale. It has 00600 documented miles on it. I plan to preserve it and drive it as a survivor.
I would love to see pictures of your trucks.

Brian, I understand what you were talking about with the jerry can mounts on the fenders. The only other truck I have seen them on is the Haverster International M-2-4. Your survivor is in really nice shape.

Brian,

Your yellow G7106 looks sweet, and with only 600 miles! You guys out west get all of the good stuff. What DoD is the yellow truck? I would love to see some images of the tipper PTO levers, PTO, PTO driveshaft and ram.

For images of mine, you can check out all of the gory details on my threads:

It looks like you have already been bitten by the MV bug. It is very contagious, and no cure is known.
