G506 Mirror arm mount
Gentlemen,
I've received a few PM's inquiring about this mirror mounting bracket and would like to find out from other owners if there is interest in having a bunch of them made up? I have a very good working relationship with a well equipped sheet metal fabricator in my area and would be willing to approach them for pricing.
It would also be helpful to know what everyone feels these things are worth and if a less than an exact replica is acceptable.
If someone else has already gone thru this excercise or has a source for these mounting brackets and/or mirror arms, Please let us know.
Kelley

Re: G506 Mirror arm mount
I have just finished restoring the one for the drivers side - but here in the UK we are required to have one on the passengers side also.
Both the hinge pins on the drivers side had to be re-made. I used steel bar and cut threads on both ends for dome nuts to prevent it from falling out.The mirror arm bracket has a little screw to locate it in the body part of the hinge - and in time this broke off, but I managed to save this bracket, and extract the broken stub of the locating screw.
I shall now blast clean this and paint it before remounting it.
I have fabricated bracket lugs from the mounting I acquired 30 years ago from an open cab CCKW to weld onto the top passenger side door hinge - the problem is after 70 years to remove the hinge pin sensibly, and I decided to take the easy option.
I can't claim to be a purist, and the truck is a medley of parts anyway, but at least the arms are original, but fitted with slightly larger mirrors for better vision.
Good luck with your project!

Re: G506 Mirror arm mount
I found one of thouse mounts on our favorite auction site.It was listed in a 40ish chevy truck catagory.IT was mounted on a civilian.I was probably luckey but you should give it a shot.It is a shame that some of these parts are not avaiable as repro. The Dodge boys have all kinda stuff for there trucks.

Jon,
I would be interested in at least two dependant on price of course. As for originality it would certainly need to be close and in the nature of the original. Being that they were mounted on 43+ trucks, it would be an alteration for mine but safety alterations are okay.
Dude, you should so buy the torpedo. How many more are there so close to you?

Re: G506 Mirror arm mount
Kelley, I would be interested in two as Paul said, if reasonable and close to original.

I'd be interested in one (driver's side) if the price is right.

Re: G506 Mirror arm mount
I'd be interested in two depending on cost and accuracy. Does anyone have the little screw that secures it to the door jam or know specs?

That little screw in the photo is the one I'm talking about. How about a few photos and dimensions/specs.

Re: G506 Mirror arm mount
Zack,
The screw is a #10-24x3/8" slotted flat head machine screw. PM me your email, the file with the pic's and dimensions must be too big to post.

Jon,
If I am one of the first ten callers do I also get the free ginsu knife set?
Seriously, thanks for taking this on and I hope your fabricator can do a good job at a reasonable cost. If the price is high, ask him how much costs would drop if more units were produced.

Re: G506 Mirror arm mount
Wow! I don't even need any, but I'm tempted to buy. Can't resist the "pitch".
Now if you tell me "The more I spend, the more I'll save" I'll probably take a dozen.
