Hi Dan,

Thanks for re-checking the frame stamping. Your GTB was a true Army GTB from the first GTB series contract of 6000 units. The DoD looks to have been in late Summer '42.

Was there any signs a hood number anywhere. It would be a 7 digit number starting with 312.

Sanded the hood yesterday and found...USN...and 0688 or 0689 not 100% but I saw no other numbers either before or after those.

mmhhmmm... could it be a hood not belonging to that body? ... or perhaps there was another "blue drab" USA # underneath?

...well... the trick usually i to take several pictures with flash during a very light sanding... at the end it's too late... anyway, it seems to me to see some traces of blue drab digits on the lower right corner...I understand that this truck - as the mine was - was in the very first batch of vehicles addressed to the Army as cargo GTBs' (with and without winch), thus the blue drab digits should belong to the first "USA" registration... did you try to have USA numbers also from the rear cargo panel?

Pierino...unfortunately there is no rear anything on back.Bubba put a flatbed from something civy,(I'm sure) on this and removed rear bumperette's so there's no original area to look for further numbers..everytime I go up-back I'll keep looking and may I'll see additional numbers on hood.
