Hello,

I'm not sure that this is original armor or not. According to the owner this 1941 Half Track was training vehicle for machine gun use. Also the bottom of that Half track was made of aluminium. Are these information correct ? Regards Piotr

It's hard to tell about the armor without close up photos. It could be cut down armor or something made up. Look for stamping of numbers and symbols on the inside of the armor. if you see this then it's original armor plate cut down. The early halftracks used aluminum floor plates front and rear. That is what my White M2A1 has. It looks like yours is a M2 of some sort. What does the data plate say. If no data plate then look inside the driver's side fender near the shock for a number stamped on the frame. Close up photos would help.

My guess is no. But that's a guess his pictures are poor
The m2 has several pieces that make up each side ( 4)
The m3 has two per side this looks like one solid sheet
It has been pieced together some as the door and axe bracket do not match
I have not seen that modification in any pictures for testing and definitely not in standard use

Bears a passing resemblance to the T7 model in RP Hunnicuts Halftrack book but not quite right

I can just imagine how he determined that. :D Or maybe Lee Iacocca owned it and he was tweaking his ideas for the fastback mustang with it.

For me this also looks like a "fastback" but I'm asking for serious comments. Searching U.S. National Archives I've seen a lot of strange looking single made MV's so my question was simple. For me the rear armor look like a fake, but I'm still waiting for some additional pictures from the seler. When I receive them I would definitelly put them on the forum. Regards Piotr

To me it's fake armor. I see this halftrack is now on eBay with only two photos. It would help if there were more photos like interior shots and from the rear like a walk a round.

The armor could be original, just hacked up. I think the guy is saying that its some sort of M-16 prototype. I don't agree, for obvious reasons.

How come no pic looking into the rear body?

Stand on the hood and take a picture - should then show the floor, sides etc, and give a lot more information.
