Re: M3 progress
Looking good Don. Took my speedo dial to an airbrush artist today. He will make it as new for me.
Where did you get the boots? Did you use NOS set from an M35 truck? I have NOS HT once, but they
have shrunk and will not fit at all and find it hard to find a company willing to ship M35 boots
overseas...
Regards
Hinrik

Re: M3 progress
Hinrik, I ended up buying a set of newer ones from Gary, they were 50's vintage. My original NOS ones had shrunk also. They were still a pain to put on, it's a 2 man for sure. I never did get a conformation that the M35 one would fit. Didn't want throw good money after bad. Did the decal help you at all? should be good referance for the artist. Got any progress photo's of your half track?? Love to see them!!

Not been home much past year. Did some work on it today, finally installed one of the wheels. Getting ready for the other one.
Will post photos once there is something to show.

Re: M3 progress
For the record m35 boots will fit fine. However you need to buy the m35 clamps as well. The rubber is much thicker than the canvas and the original clamps do not fit. I paid $20 for each boot and $33 for all 4 clamps. They really were a pain. I would spend an hour getting one side on and then test them by moving the steering wheel. It would then pop off and I would do it all again by myself. You really have to tighten them done hard as you can

Re: M3 progress
We found an old school mechanic (young guy though) so my engine is being rebuilt. According to the mechanic looks really good inside. Only need to put in some 20 over pistons, bore taper was right at the limit. Also new intake valves they were right at the limit too. Bearings, crank and cam all in good shape. Lucky Me

Re: M3 progress
Thanks for the replies, took a little break from the HT. Broke down and bought a big trailer to haul the HT as well as my cat. Been working on getting that up to speed:
Did get some work done on my HT though. Steve helped me to bleed out the brakes. Would have gone better if I'd remembered to tighten up some of the lines I put on! But we got it done and they work! We'll see how my rebuild did on the hydro-vac when we get the engine running.
I did get a couple of items rebuilt and restored:

Re: M3 progress
I think before Don ever got into military vehicles he was into narrow gauge mining equipment. Here is a link to a video my Dad took two years back at the second annual Camp Gleason (Don's House).

The beginning of the video is of the train. Second part of the video is my halftrack at the event. My Dad missed the train going up the track and only got video in reverse. Don is at the throttle. My first visit to his house it was like forget about the halftrack tell me about your trains! To many nice toys. The engine is a compressed air mining engine but don't know much else about it. I will let Don fill in the rest when he chimes in later.

It's 18" mining guage. 20lb rail. My main engine is a 1905 Porter compressed air loco from the Homestake mine in SD. I also have a battery locomotive. I was very active on building the railroad until the green iron bug bit me. If the weather dries out enough this year I hope to get more track down. Miss the ol clity clack.

Re: M3 progress
You're still making progress, thats a good thing. Thats a nice little train set you have there, it wouldn't fit on the typical 4x8 table layout. I thought G scale was big .

Re: M3 progress
Made more progress on Don's halftrack. The brakes are all bled and work! He only had a few leaks. Some fitting were not tight. Today we moved his track back into building 1 in front of mine to start putting the track suspension back together. We got the rear idler hubs back on and all greased up. We also filled the rear axle with gear oil. Don is going to grease up everything Thursday. Hopefully by Friday It will have new tracks on it. I hope to do some de-greasing on mine this weekend.
