Specifications for the HD 42WLA engine crate

Post by 17thAirborne » Wed Jan 25, 2017 6:48 am

I am planning on building a 42WLA crated engine display. Building the engine will be a great experience for me (with advice and guidance from my HD expert) and the crated engine will be a superb addition for displays and shows.

I have read most of the posts on the G and was hoping someone has the dimensions for the crate. Hope someone can help with this, and then I'll post the progress here. I plan on calling Gary's Bunker to see if he will take the measurements!

Gary has the crated engine on display at a museum. He may be able to get the dimensions on his next visit if time allows. Seems like a great person and has access to some WLA parts. I plan on staying in touch with him during the project. He has an interesting site with some great images of the engine crate.

In reviewing closely the images of the crate at Gary's Bunker, it appears the outer member of the side panel may be also constructed with the four piece frame. Here is what I think it also looks like which matches the image posted just above.
