Re: 42WLA Tool Kit No. 11800-44 Discussion
I've found that the late tool rolls used both the narrow and wide jaw pliers made by JP Danielson.
My tool roll has the original parkerized JP wide jaws pliers.

The pliers in my kit are 6" CEE TEE narrow jaw. Is that not correct then? Were they all JP Danielson? or like the Jeep and GMTK sets maybe a predominant but not exclusive manufacturer?

Re: 42WLA Tool Kit No. 11800-44 Discussion
An image of a boxed set of two WLA (WLC) wrenches from the Ontario Central Ordnance Depot in Canada. The box is dated February 1952. Is this evidence that HD made the wrenches into 1952, or is this a Canadian repackaging of WW2 tools. I have encountered US HD tools in 1950's packaging, and also wondered if they were repackaged for storage as the military often did, or is it proof that tools for the WLA were re-manufactured for years after 1945.

Recovered from under a splattering of various enamel and latex paint colors. This driver seems to match the 1811-45 posted by 1stCAVREG earlier. Despite the parallax of the camera, the overall length is just under 6 1/2" I think I have found a good one here although according to Palmer's book, its for the 1952WLA, not the 42WLA. Still looking.

Re: 42WLA Tool Kit No. 11800-44 Discussion
Thanks for all your inputs; very informative to read.
Referring to the dimension shots of each tool; I noticed that the printed dimensions of the slots of the valve cover wrench 11806-31 have suffered from some typo errors.
I may be wrong, but looking at the proportions of the wrench, it also seems that the wrench is actually 11806-30; intended for Bigtwin side valve models 1930 to 1938.
One more addition; to my knowledge, the 7/16" hex hole in wrench 11804-X (1/2" and 9/16") was intended as a spanner for the chain tool 12039-38.
The hex hole comes also very useful when taking the clutch apart. Remove the adjuster nut of the push rod. Put the hex hole of wrench 11804-X over the adjuster screw.
Put the nut back on and tighten the nut. This action will compress the clutch springs and free the 3 clutch spring nuts for easy removal. When the 3 clutch spring tension
nuts are removed, the clutch releasing disc can be removed as a unit, together with the clutch pressure plate and the 10 clutch springs.

THIS is a fascinating thread! I wish that there was this much information in one place about the tool kits issued with military Indians. Of course, I wish the tool kits were as comprehensive in the first place!

I was hoping more people would post their tools and variations so we get an all encompassing look at 42WLA items. Yes, a similar threat on the Indian would be beneficial.

Re: 42WLA Tool Kit No. 11800-44 Discussion
Hello I actually have TWO spare 1/2 X 7/16 OEM Harley WLA wrenches so I will PM you to see if you are still looking to trade. And if there is anyone else interested I would prefer to trade my spare wrenches for any of the other three WLA double-ended open end wrenches with the embossed sizes on them (3/4 X 5/8, 9/16 X 1/2, or 3/8 X 5/16) - as opposed to selling them. However I might consider trading for other OEM WLA tools depending on what you have. Thanks to all for this great thread and forum.17thAirborne wrote: ↑Sat Aug 13, 2016 11:24 amI found another 3/4 x 5/8 HD wrench for posting here. I'll also offer this up for trade against a 1/2 x 7/16 wrench.

Eric,
I am sorry to say the wrench has been traded. I am sorry for not updated the post but it was a year ago. Thanks for looking.

Re: 42WLA Tool Kit No. 11800-44 Discussion
Thanks for the update. So for any others who may be following this discussion, as of the date of this post I still have two (2) spare OEM HD WLA 1/2 X 7/16 dual open end wrenches that I would be willing to trade for any of the other dual open ended wrenches for the WLA kit.
And on an entirely different topic, I happen to have various pliers and adjustable wrench brands but I am curious if there is an answer to the question of whether the "correct" brand of pliers and adjustable wrench in the WLA kit was Diamond Calk Horseshoe Co. / Diamalloy (adjustable wrench) or Cee Tee (pliers) or J.P. Danielson for both? Or could ANY of those brands have been used in the OEM kits?

I have only seen JP danielson in kits, but have not seen many in my collecting days. Perhaps Craig has a different experience.

Re: 42WLA Tool Kit No. 11800-44 Discussion
See my slightly edited / clarified post about the brand of the adjustable wrench and pliers above. The reason I asked about the adjustable wrench and plier manufacturers (Diamond Calk Horseshoe Co. / Diamalloy for adjustable wrench; Cee Tee for pliers; or J.P. Danielson for both) is that on page 2 of THIS discussion the plier example shown is Cee Tee and adjustable wrench example shown is Diamond Calk. However, in these OTHER older discussion threads (see below) about tools they only cite J.P. Danielson as the manufacturer. For what it's worth also note the discussion in the second link below about possible screwdriver manufacturer information. Again, thanks to all for this interesting discussion.
