Re: More engine power in dukw
From what I recall, the M135/M211 GMC 2-1/2T truck (recall Rambo driving one...)
Distinguishing features: Sloped hood. sides of rear bed notched up a few inches above the rear wheels, bumper might have lightening holes in it, usually hardtop. (automatic transmission)
This keeps it military, and I think is a bolt in replacement, but you still need the reverse fan and some components off the DUKW engine, possibly the flywheel.
Here's an example for 2K, but asking on the 2ton and up forum, or over on SS may yield a truck for parting out for the axles offering the engine.

That would be a good motor to install but be careful not to overpower the rest of the driveline. It gets very expensive when other components start to break. Eddy

Thanks for the replies. The 302 engine sounds the way to go. Has anyone seen any for sale?

There are Crankshaft and Crankshaft pulley, Air Compressor, Flywheel, Water pump fuel pump, intake manifold, carburetor differences to consider and the M-135/M-211 block has the fuel pump location blanked off. Also, the DUKW Oil Pan must be installed, the Deep Sump M-211 Oil Pan cannot be used. Crank Case plumbing for the Oil Pump is also different.

I have four 302 take outs available. Engines are complete, turn by hand and the auto transmission is still attached. They are located in the Netherlands. I can ship, but have no clue what the costs will be.
I use the 302 in my DUKW also, it makes a lot of difference.
Joel is right, you need to do some wrench turning before you can put it in.

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure the power gains would be worth it though

Re: More engine power in dukw
The 302's were installed in GMC medium duty trucks thru the 50s and there were several Crankshaft, connecting rod, Cylinder Head Manifold, intake Port and Carburetor configurations. It's too easy to make a mistake as there is a lot of well intentioned advice. The only 302 experience I have is the 302 in the M-135/M-211 and the 302 installed in the U.S. Army 424V 1955 2 Ton GMC Commercial trucks from my Army days. Intake Manifolds with 2, 3 and 4 Bolt intakes will be an education for you. The WWII 270 intakes and heads will not fit the several 50's 302 GMC configuration.
The late Civilian 302's are no longer a common find.

It looks like I may have found a later 270 from the fifties. Apparently 145hp?

Don't know about the postwar 270, but there is a rebuilt 302 engine on epay right now. The best part is that it's allready modified for use in the Dukw and for you it's located on the right side of the pond.

Re: More engine power in dukw
Thanks. Looks like it still needs some parts from the dukw's motor. Fan and air filter

Re: More engine power in dukw
You can use the original waterpump of the 270 dukw engine and also the reverse fan.
The carb still has the elbow on the back for the hose to a side mounted aircleaner. I use only a long hose and put it low inside the hull behind the right front wheel.

Re: More engine power in dukw
Hopefully it has a matching Flywheel. The 302 has 6 Flywheel Bolts on the crankshaft.and the M-Series crankshaft is longer at the pulley. There are bound to be some surprises.
