DUKW Wheel Cylinders

Post by renovate7 » Mon Feb 27, 2017 4:50 am

Just replaced my 4th wheel cylinder since I got this in 2012. I've done both fronts and two of the rears. Who can rebuild these with the stainless sleeve inserts? Or am I better off just buying more of the newly made that Rex W has?

Hello,
A company called White Owl Restorations used to advertise they installed stainless steel linings into wheel cylinders. They use to advertise in Hemming s Motor News. I have never used their services.

I found quite a few companies that resleeve in stainless thru the antique car community. Will be over $100 per cylinder. Also found new Wagner cylinders are available thru Napa and others for about $35 each. The original GM part numbers 5451212 for the front and 5451214 cross to current Wagner numbers, the front is W3406. I think I'll just keep my old cylinders and buy new Wagner's as needed. I've never had any luck rebuilding old cylinders and after spending an hour and $ on a kit just found it easier to buy a new one.

Are the threads for the hose adaptors on the new front cylinders at an upward angle? $35.00 sounds too good to be true.

The Wagner number was a direct cross on their computer and is the number I get on the net when I do a search of the original GM number. I'll go ahead and order one and see what I get. If I order it tomorrow they should have it Friday...As an aside, the cylinders I got from Rex are labeled "made in Taiwan" and have part number 1308 on the box. They have the angled connection for the hose.

I did not see it posted here but W3677 is the number for the rear WC at Napa for $44.
