While in the Navy I drove several Navy vehicles that fell right into this class and not a single one of them had the tradiotional Navy registration number but did have the base and department indicated instead on the outside of the vehicle. I think they by then had the generic .gov vehicle inventory tags but may have had the Navy property tag instead of the Dept. of the Navy tag shown in this thread.Cuz wrote:These needs were met by small special contracts and local procurement. WW2 or not, the Navy did have CJ 2A and 3A jeeps as I have pictures of them just as the Army had civvy jeeps after the war.
