Is this a 46?
I couldn't find a color photo but here is a black and white.
A little Christmas trivia!
Photo is from the 1947 movie, Miracle on 34th Street with a great cast that won all the big awards the next year.
The movie was released May 2, 1947.
Watching the show a day or two ago it appeared Pasture Green with Michigan Yellow wheels.
So, is it a 1946? I know what I saw could have been colorized.

That is an interesting photo. I thought I remembered seeing photos of jeeps pulling floats in the old Macy Christmas parades, looked arouind on the net and found these two photos. Too far away to tell, but they look like CJ2A's.

Re: Is this a 46?
I see I was mistaken about the wheels...
Year
Color
Wheels
1946-1947
column shift
Pasture Green
(John Deere-like green)
Autumn Yellow (a bright yellow) wheel with a Pasture Green stripe
Harvest Tan
(dark tan, light brown )
Sunset Red (not red but a bright pumpkin orange) wheels with a American Black pinstripe
1946
non-column shift
Princeton Black
(aka American Black)
Period color ads show Princeton Black with either a Harvard Red or Sunset Red
wheels with a American Black stripe. I'm sure any of the wheel colors could
have been used with this color.
Normandy Blue
(real dark Navy Blue)
1. Autumn Yellow with a Normandy Blue or American Black stripe.
2. Sunset Red with a Normandy Blue or American Black stripe.
Michigan Yellow
(medium yellow)
1. Pasture Green with a Michigan Yellow stripe.
2. American Black with a Ivory stripe.
3. Sunset Red with a American Black stripe.
Harvard Red
(bright red)
1. Autumn Yellow with a Harvard Red stripe.
2. American Black with a Ivory Stripe.

Re: Is this a 46?
Column shift started with the first 45 CJ-2A serial # 10001 to 1946 # 38221. There were no 47 column shifts.

Re: Is this a 46?
Hi Mark, that could be a 1946 or 1947..... without the serial number proof, no other way to decipher which for sure. As Joel posted the correct serial number range regarding the front parking lights, the Corcoran-Brown's were used until mid-47 production.....lowenuf aka Michael Myers (I am the one with Keith Buckley in Colorado when we went out to eat with you and Lloyd ) Merry Christmas

Re: Is this a 46?
I have a late 45 or early 46 CJ-2a column shift at the shop now.
Serial number 18180
Paint looks original and is faded really, really bad.
Looks to be Harvest Tan with Michigan Yellow rims ?? Barely enough paint to try to buff to get a better idea of the color. Not that I am going to try right now. -5*F when I got up this morning.
What I think is a Sears & Roebuck aluminum hard top.
No chrome bezel on the parking lights. Just black, bullet shaped parking light fixtures in open holes. Maybe used to be a rubber boot that is now long gone ???
It was a personal jeep for a local dealer in the early 50's that is still in the family so I'm thinking it is pretty original.

Re: Is this a 46?
That serial number makes it a 1946....... If it is Harvest Tan, it would have came with Sunset Red wheels, Pasture Green had the Autumn Yellow wheels.Wolfman wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2017 5:57 amI have a late 45 or early 46 CJ-2a column shift at the shop now.

Re: Is this a 46?
1946 Got it. Thanks for the intel, Lowenuf. (Spell check didn't like that one ! )
Have to use a lot of imagination on the paint. Probably is badly faded red instead of badly faded yellow. Actually has the look of light rust starting to bleed through what is left of the badly faded paint.
It has been setting out for a really long time. I got it running several years ago but it was taken to a neighbors by the family for storage. He did. Outside.
I have it back now and have it running again. A new fuel tank from Ron has it portable. Now for the brakes. "Whoa Nelly !!" don't work so good. Defensive driving is a must !!
Winter project. Plan is to have it going so the family can take it to their lake cottage for the summer.
I am going to suggest inside storage would be a plus !!!

Re: Is this a 46?
Hi Mark,
I have a '46 (I've owned it since 1969 - my first car) with original chrome parking light bezels, serial number 58520. It has a floor shift, not a column shift. I also owned and sold a 100% original early column shift '46 that had the original black painted parking light bezels. It was serial number 13175. So somewhere in there they switched to the chrome bezels like the ones in the photo you posted from 1947. As far as I know, only the 45-46 CJ2As had the recessed lights, with the 47 to 49s having surface mounted parking lights.

Bullet style park lights up to Cj-2A # 97740. 1946 serial numbers of vehicles starting # 11825 to # 83380. 1947 year- # 83381-148458. So, yes 14,359 1947 CJ-2A's DID have the early Bullet style park lights. Source- Illstrated Buyers Guide JEEP by Jim Allen 1999.

I find it interesting that there's a chaff screen on the Jeep in the first post. You wouldn't expect there to be a need for that in that parade.
Is it true real Jeeps have flat fenders?
