To add to Sean's comments...

The second photo is a chain drive engine with a 3A style plate. (Installed in a 3A frame) I just welded the gap closed at the top of the cam opening.

The MB/GPW plate... The crankshaft opening on the plate could be enlarged to accommodate the oiler on a gear drive block, if the crankshaft used is not drilled for oiling.

There is a new one I can add to things I have been accused of. Conjecturing !
I guess if I am guilty, it is of elaborating. I went beyond Fuzzy's question and described the inverse of what he wants to do.
My point being, you can't use a gear drive plate on a chain drive block with out some modification. Hawk covered that one.
But it will work, as will using a chain drive plate on the gear drive block, if you use the chain drive components.
Whew ! All those big words take a lot of typing !!
Guess I should have left it alone back when Sean said " Yes ! ".
Your doing just fine Fuzzy. Carry on.

Aw, what the heck ! While I am on a roll.
I put a gear drive cam in a chain drive block once.
Chain drive block & front plate. I put the bronze thrust washer on the gear drive cam in place of the flat metal retaining plate that has the ears and bolt holes.
Installed the cam and held it in place with two fender washers on the two opposing front engine plate retaining bolts next to the cam thrust washer. ( there are three next to the cam total. )
I used the gear drive cover and of course, an oil pump with a gear to match the gear type cam oil pump drive gear.
That was a few years ago. The engine is still running the last I knew.
Why ??? A customer brought me an engine in pieces and ask me if I could make it run with what he brought me. I did.
I love a good challenge and I wanted to make Unca Bubba proud !
