The Money Shot!

Post by DarrylD » Sun Jun 22, 2003 2:18 pm

Oh yeah baby!

Image

My 1943 Bantam T3 is ready for the 4th-of-July parade with enough time to spare to fix the now leaking rear differntial pinion seal on my jeep!

The nomenclature plate cleaned-up nicely and is riveted with the heads on the inside of the tub as per original:

Now it had better not rain on the 4th!

I just don't think anything can top finishing a restoration, except maybe watching your child being born!

Darryl, Great job on your restoration! When you banged out the dents, did you use the Quench and cool technique or just heat and hammer? My last question is what's your next project? Bryan

First Class. Very nice restoration. It will be the sharpest vehicle in the parade. :)

Thanks for the positive comments gents, I can't rest for long, now it's sandblasting season in Seattle, gotta get started on a clean '43 GPW I found last winter. With a little tweaking and a new Solex carburator, it runs great, and heck it even backs-up my steep driveway!

The goal for this next project is a play jeep, keep it all as original parts as possible but restored to combat motorpool condition, mount a M31 pedestal with the dummy .50 M2 HB I built a few years back, fabricate a wire cutting bar on the front bumper and basically make it ready to do a bit of forest service road cruising with. The major project will be replacing (or patching) the front floor and hat channels.

Hey Bryan, about the dent removal methods, just a body hammer and dolly, no heat required. The dents were mostly of the pointed object variety and didn't seem to introduce any stretch into the thick sheetmetal and hammered right out.

Thanks all!

Bravo man! That looks great. Are you bringing it to the convention?

Hey Bill!

No hauling to the convention this year. If all goes well, a quick jet ride, a night at my sister's in San Jose, and a whole day at the convention. I'm giving it about a 75% probability that I'll be able to make it with all that's going on here.
