M416 Wheel Bearing Kit

Post by LOG O USMC » Sat Mar 03, 2018 6:30 am

I found a wheel bearing kit that says it is a: Parts Kit, Steering Axle, 1 ea. DLA700-88-M-UK99. NSN is 2530-00-887-1341. It consists of 2 bearing cones, 2 bearing cups and 1 cotter pin. The claim is that it fits both the M151 steering axle and the M416 trailer hubs. Does anyone here know if that is true or not? Thanks

That is correct. M416 and M151 use the same Wheel bearings and the seal will interchange also.

Thanks Roger,

Do you happen to know the best place to get the seals? I am in Carlsbad, just down the road from you.

Good day Ken.
Any O Reilly auto parts store can have them in 24 hours or less.

The seal is a National #472018
They should cost less than $7.00 each

One seal per wheel / two per axle.

O'Reillys also has the wheel Bearings and Cups.
It would cost you about $43.06 with tax per wheel for good National (BCA) Bearings and Cups from O'Reilly's.

Is this the surplus kit from E bay that you are looking at. If so that is a good deal @ $21.50 + $7.20 shipping. No tax involved for a total of $28.70 per wheel.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/WHEEL-BEARING- ... c-74dbd180

This listing below might be your best deal of all though.

Timken Bearing set #45 includes the same Bearing and cup and can be found on E Bay for as low as $11.66 with no tax and free shipping. These are good bearing sets. You would need 2 of these per wheel for a cost of $23.32 per wheel. This is about 1/2 the cost of OReilly when you figure in the no tax and free shipping.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Wheel-Bearing- ... Qo1&vxp=mt

So there you have it for the cost per wheel./Axle.
O'Reilly = $43.06 per wheel./Per axle is $86.12
Surplus = $28.70 per wheel./Per axle is $57.40 ($50.20 if they will combine shipping)
E Bay = $23.32 per wheel./Per axle is $46.64

O'Reilly still has the best deal on seals though. $7.53 per wheel w/tax./ $15.06 Per axle.

The big question might be do you really need new Bearings and cups. Are the old ones rusty and/or worn out?

Rockauto.com is a good place to buy Timken bearings and seals When I order Timken bearings from them I often get them the next day as I'm in Socal and they come out of San Bernardino.

Set 45 =$8.59 each!

National seal 472018 $6.99 each regular price, one closeout at $4.06!

If you google Rockauto discount, you can get a code for an additional 5% off, too!

Good source Marty. Even though he will have to pay tax and shipping, Rockauto will most likely be the best buy.

Thanks for the info everyone. I bought a few sets off E-bay for about $20.00 a wheel and the shipping for all of them was about $7.00. I will head over to the O'Reilly Auto parts near me for some seals. Ken
