Tandem M416's

Post by Pops506th » Thu Feb 22, 2018 6:30 am

I've seen plenty of the pics of the tandem trailer mods for the MBT's and Bantam WW2 trailers.

Did they ever do that mod to the M416's?

Ever VS Never...
In service I have never seen it done, to mod the trailer would require a brace to reinforce the back of the trailer, the hitch , 4 bolts, wiring harness adapter, etc. (by the book)
Backing up one loose trailer is hard enough to not jackknife, two would call for a miracle driver.
If it was done, it would have only been expedient at a depot area or runway situation I woud think due to loads ripping out the hitch, etc.

I recently backed up a 4 wheel 1918 Artillery Trailer with front steering axle I have, and it took me 30 minutes to move it 60 feet on the back of my power steering equipped Mercury Mountaineer, I do not see how some of these European and Double Semi-trailer (Aussies truck trains are even worse) can manage to back up at all if they get blocked from going forward.
(I) Never saw a doubled up 416 in over 30 years of watching.

I put a pintle hitch on my M762 and pull an M100 around the property...gets interesting sometimes..
