Ww2 canvas question

Post by TonyStandefer » Sun Sep 24, 2017 3:55 pm

I have two repro jeep trailer covers, one is seamed long ways down the middle of the trailer, the other is seamed crossways from fender to fender, which is correct ww2 style?

I think my WeeBee Webbing trailer cover is seamed front-to-back. The Willys drawing is seamed front-to-back. Not sure about them being seamed side-to-side...

Seems like the tarp on my friend's trailer is front to rear also. We believe it to be original war-production.

That said, would they really spec the requirement to seam it one way and not the other?

I can see these being made from spare parts and scraps & as long as it fits, who cares. Thoughts?

The Army had a Drawing and a Spec. for the G-529 and the same drawing and specifications carried over into the G-747 M-100. It covered the duck, hardware, rope and marking. It did not involve scrap. They used the same WWII manufacturers as the Jeep Tops. I have the drawing for the MBT/M-100 buried in my files.

Just like the jeep top being sewn differently and still accepted.
