10-9-42 Bantam trailer restoration questions
I just picked up a 1942 bantam 1/4 trailer.
Question: did 10-9-42 bantam trailers have tail lights?
Note: I plan in pulling it with a 1941 slatgrill. (No trailer socket)
Trailer is in rough but restorable condition but I need some parts.
No lunette ring. Rear pannel is cut. 8"x8" hole cut in floor. Rest of floor is in rough shape.
I will also need combat wheels too.
Lunette ring needed.
Rear pannel needed.
Anyone have any of these parts or know where i can get them?
Tks,
Rustfarm.

Rustfarm,
Look to see if you have a black out switch on the frame front right/passenger side see picture on:
http://www.jarheadjeep.com/Bens_1943_US ... ReAssemble
The oldest TM-1081 manual I have Sept. 30, 1942 supersedes July 15, 1942 TM-1081 shows brake tail lights. # 13
So I am a little fuzzy on time frames that tail/brake was added to T3's. Did see that the Sept. 30,1942 had brake/stop light on both sides? Not clearly stated though.
Maybe Chuck will have more information on when they were added.
Have fun,
Ben

Re: 10-9-42 Bantam trailer restoration questions
From Day-One the G529 had the same taillight set up that the jeep has....it also has the same reflector set up (sides and rear panel).
Send me the answers to the "How To ID..." sticky and we can find a suitable USA number for your trailer.
If the data plate says "10-9-42" (October 9, 1942) then the serial number should be about 2800 or 2900. The missing ACM number will confirm more of this...

Are you contemplating a repro floor or tub? If NOT, I have a fair floor and would probably be willing to sell you a 10" x 10" patch. You can buy the whole floor....but it'll come attached to a frame.rustfarm wrote: 8"x8" hole cut in floor. Rest of floor is in rough shape.

They don't get any earlier than the VEP MBTs that did not even have a rear frame crossmember on them but they do have taillights!

Re: 10-9-42 Bantam trailer restoration questions
I have never seen one or a picture of one in service....only the prototype and the manual pics....and I believe they were either in VERY short production or....more likely, actually never made it into production and only showed up on the prototypes. It is possible that the first manual photos are of the prototypes as the lead time for printing might have not picked up the addition of the rear crossmember.
I can't see how an unsupported rear section would be a good idea so the usage of another crossmember of the same type as the one ahead of it seems to be a last minute idea since it is stamped out with the holes in it used for the crossmember ahead of it rather than a blank.

The two service brake light arrangement started with the later production M100 and all M416s. As Chuck stated all WWII g529 trailers had the same tail light arrangement as the jeep.
