What are those holes for in the rear of the frame on my BT3?

Post by Alan S » Mon Jul 14, 2003 1:20 pm

I just completed the restoration of my 45 BT3 trailer. There are a series of holes on the rear of the frame. These holes can be seen when you look at thr trailer from the rear, there are 2- 1" holes in each corner with a series of smaller holes next to the larger ones.I left the holes in place because I have also seen them on other Bantam WW2 trailers. What were they used for and were they on all WW2 1/4 tons or just certain units?

Correct me if I'm wrong - the holes were put on both sides so they could install the rear brace either way and it still would be right. Because I'm sure they were in a bit of a hurry to get things done! Matt 8)

I don't have that manual but, I went out to take a peek at my MB-T and the right inside braces have the holes (for wiring harness) The left side just has the small holes. I have looked at them many times over and did'nt think anything of it...I guess the braces were interchangeble. Manuals are on the list for the convention  Matt 8)

The answer to the question is: FOR NOTHING :)
As a matter of fact the holes where the same as in the inner crossmembers, which would make things easier in assembly.
As MPMB wrote, they were interchangeable. The fact one hole comes handy for the drain plug,I think it is just an extra bonus...
