Transfercase Countershaft

Post by Radar4xfour » Sun Jan 15, 2017 9:45 am

Hello all,

Transfercase countershaft info. If you have not had your transfercase apart there is a very high probability the countershaft is junk. The attached picture shows 4 coutershafts, 3 are used and the 4th one is one I had machined. Sorry, the newly machined shaft does not include the hole down the length of the shaft. Although difficult to see in the pictures all of the used shafts show excessive wear on one side. With the design of the transfercase all the power is constantly being applied to one side of the gear causing the abnormal wear on the shaft. This type of wear is also true of a Dana 18 transfercase. With a new shaft installed your transfercase will run quieter. At this time I do not have any newly machine shafts available. If there is enough interest I could be persuaded to revisit with the manufacturer and see what the current cost is. Last time the cost was greater than $100.00

Regards,

Radar

Good information! Mine has been together for 20 plus years. It had 19,000 on it when I got it, rebuilt it and now it has about 7,000 miles on it. So, 26,000 miles and it should probably be checked. I suspect these shafts are unobtainable too :x
