A preventative maintenance tip. If you have the need to remove the tunnel cover on your Mighty Mite check the breather and the boot (aka bellows) at the transmission shift tower.
If your breather is clogged the internal pressure inside your transmission will find another place to vent itself. With a clogged breather the easiest spot for pressure to escape is a seal. When the pressure builds it will force itself past the seal along with gear oil. If you have a leaking seal at any of the gear boxes be sure to inspect the breather first, it could very well save you quite a bit of labor of replacing a perfectly good seal. There are 5 breathers on your machine including the steering gear box, it also has a vent on it.
The boot or bellows on the transmission shift tower is also worth inspecting. This is the boot under the tunnel cover. Of the 4 Mighty Mites I've worked on either the boot was either MIA or dry rotted and therefor not doing its job. Both boots are important to keep water or moisture from telescoping down the shifter cane into the transmission. An easy to find "will fit" boot is one from a Dodge M37 master cylinder.
