M422 insurance

Post by rusty shackleford » Mon Nov 07, 2016 6:33 pm

I live in California and just received a letter from the DMV saying that I need to provide proof of insurance and that I've exceeded the deadline to register it under non operational use. The car is stored in my underground community parking garage at my apartment and doesn't run, that's why I let the registration expire but apparently if you let your registration expire in California, they report you to collections and it goes on your credit. I've been calling all around to get insurance and nobody wants to insure the mite, I've tried hagerty and State Farm as well as a few others. Any suggestions?

What are you telling them it is. I register M151s and a few MMs as 1/4 ton 4x4 trucks. When the DMV asks what type of body style, I list it as truck and for insurance purposes, I use the exact wording from the data plate. Never had a problem.

I got my insurance through Hagerty with no issues. I do have a title for mine, I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
JC Taylor is another specialty or historic insurer too. I have good luck with them as well.

I have had State Farm on mine for a long time. In California and now Oregon. Never any issues at all.
